Engine Bars look good. What's that thingy which looks like plastic extending rearwards from the Plug Cover ?.

Ah, that's an optical illusion mate. I've got the BMW plastic head guards fitted as well as the crash bars (bought the plastic first, then an offer on the bars came up). The plastic starts the line and then these continue it:

My boots scuff the frame, so I thought these were cheap enough to try. Nice design, but I don't think the material is up to the job. If you like the look, however, and don't tend to dig your heels in, they're worth the money.

Just remember to take the engine bars off yourself before you put the bike in for a service, local dealers charged me an hours work to remove and put back (which was not cheap)

...or worth asking the dealer before you take it in. Some dealers won't charge extra, I believe (possibly naively )

I considered a pair of them as my boots have rubbed off paint, but after reading through the ebay feedbacks someone said they were a pit lightweight or words to that effect

Yeah, I would agree mate. They're hanging on in there at the moment, so I'll leave them on until they get tatty.

There's another set on eBay, but they come from the States and have a postage charge of something approaching £20! I looked into it and found out that they were made of a stuff called Metamark 7 Series signmaking vinyl.

Now you're challenging me It's a bit of a complex shape with bends and angles and things!

Having just read sven's post, that sounds like a winning idea. If that doesn't work out, I'd be prepared to take mine off, stick 'em on some card and send to you as templates.

I guess the size doesn't have to be exactly the same, i could work out some sizes if needs be. As it's a "work" sign shop i'm sure they wont mind if i keep going back, it helps that the guy who does it is my mate, and a biker

My Givi Rack arrived today, i ordered it through barkbusters a week ago but it got left of their order yesterday, so they called Givi UK direct and they sent it straight to me so i could get the new box on before my trip to the Ardennes tomorrow

I'm awaiting a Givi rack for my new RT too - Allan Jefferies say they're on back order, which is a bit of a pain as I have a Givi Trekker to deliver to its new owner

I've fitted RAM ball to one of the handle bar bolts for the time being, but have also picked up a used Wunderlich GPS mount for £40. I'd have preferred the BMW mount, but I understand that the height of the TT Rider may have interfered with the screen.

I've also managed to buy a virtually new BMW tankbag for £100, which is a great bit of kit, a pair of Kathy's bag liners for £35 and it came with BMW head protectors. The only things left to buy are a a fender extender and soem Ventureshield film to protect the paint on the pannier lids and tank.

Don't worry Shready provides a national service to remind absolutely everyone when an ad for an RT is put up for sale - his one was the only one which under the fairing was cleaner than the dinner plates coming out of Wapping's recently repaired dishwasher

I should've kept it to help people over their cravings for an RT, just like I had. This sum'bitch in the few months I had it would've cured all cravings, it sure cured mine

It spent most of its time like this, first thing I learnt was how to remove and replace the fairing, because I had to because almost everything requires it to be removed

They are good at two things, fast at over 80MPH speeds on good tarmac and weather protection. In every other capacity they are nowhere near as good as the GS I replaced for it.

In town, at slower speeds, on less than perfect tarmac, anything requiring ground clearance.

I wouldn't want to be a London fed having to manhandle one of them in lunnon tahn.

Mine was according to BM goo-roo Steppers in pretty good nick under the plastic, just a shame that under the tin it was shite

Trust me you don't want one.

Every RT at I looked I got underneath with a torch to see what it was like.

Mine wasn't perfect but it didn't get worse in my ownership.

I loved mine, except when it broke down in France and had to be repatriated, me pilion on my mates RT

I'd buy another in a heartbeat but fear there are not many good ones left.

Intended to use it when I had to travel around to review people "out of county" but weather was so shitty last year it stayed in the shed. Now retired and weather still shit!! So might have a go at selling if we ever get a spring.

If it's any consolation (& I know it won't be) I had nothing but problems with my 1st 12RT. It let me down time after time. BUT when it was working it was the best bike I've ever owned. So much so that I went and bought another. Which has been brilliant......................................so far .
