Blown over by the wind?

Hi all,

I arrived home today to find my bike on its side, resting on the bonnet of my neighbour's car. A quick investigation showed that it was blown over by the wind.

I am confident this is what happened because the bike was parked in a place where nothing else would have been able to hit it at that particular angle; and I know my neighbour didn't go anywhere today, so there's no way he could have "parked" into my bike.

I am a bit worried. This has never happened before - in any weather.

Any ideas what could the reason be? Dodgy side-stand, perhaps?

I think there's a course run in my local pub for this sort of thing, your name isn't mohammed...? recently arrived from syria...? can I claim my ten pounds yet....?
 
Entirely possible.....did you leave her on the side-stand and esp. with the steering over to the right?
 
I did, with the steering to the left.
 
Happened me centre stand bike covered and over she went so it can happen.

I'd have thought it would be more stable on the side stand with the bars turned to the right, depending on the angle of the camber?
 
Side stand and in gear is the most stable. Facing uphill is even better.
 
Was it very, very windy today where you live? If so then it is possible that the wind blew it over - sometimes the wind can be so strong that it blows roofs off houses and can even blow big lorries over on the motorways - I know this because I have seen it on the News.
 
My GSA has blown over twice on the main stand, the cover acts like a sail in high wind, luckily it was a heavy duty lined cover and took most of the damage.
My routine now is to use the side stand and bike in gear parked close to the wall.
So far, so good.
 
same thing happened to my 2014 GSA about a year ago in a cafe car park my "Olive" landed on a little red car cost me £500 in repair for car not aa mark on "Olive" i do try centre stand in high winds but not always good. It was on prop stand and about 2 foot away from car blew over and rippled a good side of cars paintwork!

O yes mine fell to right side!

There was a video thread where the bike being tested fell off the stand which resulted in a lot of posts on the subject but it was more about remembering to park your bike properly.

I came home from work on Monday evening got out of my car and as walked up the path I could see my GS was upright! the side stand was a good few inches off the ground. Looking round the other side my engine guard was resting on the short garden wall. Bike was in gear so didn't go anywhere, I quickly took the cover(read sail) off and quickly repositioned the bike to a steeper angle and put the handlebars to the right. So bike now getting wet so hopefully wont blow over but may corrode the engine casings!!
