It seems my bike has decided to turn on me. I think it heard that I took a spin on a Honda and has started to self harm to attract attention.
After 20 months of joy soaked smooth sailing, it has had a series of failures.
Problem 1. Oil leaks from temp sensor and rear drive.
Problem 2. Oil contamination into clutch.
Problem 3. Excessive corrosion on fork leg braces.
Now, all of the above were covered under warranty and fixed by either Vines or SLM with the utmost professionalism and courtesy - so no complaints there.
Just this evening, after a ten day lay up because rear tyre was squared off, I started it up in advance of getting tyre replaced in morning. Bit of a bugger to start, starter motor spinning away, but engine not quite catching. A liberal dose of throttle got it running, but straightaway it sounded lumpy. Thinking it was due to the lay off, I let it run for about 10 mins, until it was warming up. The RH Cylinder was still making some dodgy noises, so I shut off the engine and had a look. I saw bubbles blowing between the fins on the head, which I guess is a blown seal or some such.
Anyway, its still under warranty, and I hope that Vines will have no problem fixing it. In the morning I will ring them up and get them to pick it up.
But, why now? Why am I having so many serious problems (ok the forks arent serious) now? The warranty runs out in a few weeks and Im getting concerned!
Would there be any mileage in asking BMW to give the bike a thorough examination to see if there is some other gremlin lurking under there somewhere..?
