hi all
just took the gs in to blue bell in crewe for a couple of small jobs under warranty, to be told that they have no record of any warranty on the bike.
i bought the bike there last may from mike maloney the then salesman.
i remember asking him on three occasions about said warranty and was assured that i had a 12 month bmw warranty but there was no paperwork as it was all held on the computer system. now when i go in to get work done they claim no record.:spitfire
all due to them they have, after an hour agreed to do the small jobs foc ( sticking starter switch and small oil leak ) but i am now worried that they are going to claim that i have no warranty for the next 4 months which worries me as the gearbox has in the last couple of days started to get hard to change down,
i have the wife as a witness to mike saying the warranty was in place, but as its the first bike i have ever purchased from a dealer i presumed that the warranty would be as stated by the salesman and did not think the lack of paperwork a problem. i will report back later
just going to ring trading standards to see where i stand
if mike is out ther please get i touch with me

In some cases you could well have a problem without the paperwork, and in all honesty you should have made sure that you had it,but IIRC all used bikes from BMW Dealers are now sold as BMW Approved Vehicles with a minimum of 12 months warranty.
This was in force in December 2003 when I got my Kalahari 1100.

If the bike was bought new,it would have the manufacturer`s warranty as a matter of course.

Regarding the gearchange issue, have you tried lubing the gearchange lever assembly,as it`s prone to seizure.....

nice one tarka it was advertised as a bmw approved bike in the autotrader and its nice to know they have been selling as such since 03
as to the gear change i gave it a good soak with wd yesterday but it has not cured it, i would of stripped and cleaned it but had just come off nights so had to get to bed, no garage so couldn't see when i got up
just got off the phone to trading standards who have re assured me that i should be in the right so we will see
cheers man :thumb

Bought my 2000 1150 from Williams in August and didnt get any warranty details from them either- did ask and told I didnt need any. That also extended to the breakdown cover- 'Just ring the number on thr key-ring Sir'- I have AA cover anyway so not unduly concerned. Got mountains of other paperwork- history etc but not really what I wanted if something goes wrong.

Nothing has gone wrong, but on the off-chance does anyone have a concrete definition of what is and isnt covered under the BMW approved used warranty???

Know you dont have to have the bike serviced by BMW within the first 2 years new warranty as long as you use approved parts (European legislation that is useful for a change) but does this also extend to the 12 month used warranty- it had better not- just done a 12k on mine myself with approved parts from Motobins......

i spoke to southport superbikes earlier and was told that there should have been a silver card sent to me from bmw which carried the warranty info, i have never had such a card, if you are in the same boat, i wonder if this is a ruse to increase profits as the dealer told me they had to pay for the waranty from bmw this morning

Never received a silver card from BMW, in fact never received a thing from BMW.

Wonder how many people have actually got these silver cards? Be interested to see what they say on them and the associated paperwork

This is the only silver card I had with my bike and it was for BMW assist.

well just pick gs up from blue bell, work done and the gear linkage stripped and greased which has thankfully solved that problem and saved me sitting outside doing it. no charge for anything and the new salesman Greg has told me he can not issue a warranty now as the bike only has 4 months left but if i have any more problems to contact him and he will do his best to sort it out.
i will still write to blue bell and bmw as told by the trading standards office ( always have hard copies ) but hopefully this will not be needed in anger.
cheers all cral :bounce1

Gald you got a result :thumb have you had a word with Phil in sales, see what he says about it all :mmmm

:D

I bought a BMW used bike last year from Astle in Grimsby with a years warranty. Had no paperwork but was told to just ring the number on the key-ring if I had any issue.

I phoned the number within the first week just to make sure the bike was registered and it was registered in my name. I don't think your bike is automatically covered but has to be registered by the dealer, they will obviously incur a cost on this.

Best phone the number and find out, they are open 24-7.

I wonder if dealers are registering bikes with bmw???
my bill of sale had an amount on it for the warantee, has yours? cos that would be proof.
have a look at the south london bmw thread above ,same sort of problem,

I donn't wish to cast doubts on the honesty and integrity of any BMW dealers. However, there was a scam in the motor trade a few years ago with warranties.
I found it out when buying a vw from a honda franchise, I paid for a full warranty in the cost and it was on the invoices, I recieved a warranty book but no paperwork from hondacare. later when there was a problem with the vehicle the dealer was very reluctant to recover and carry out work.
When hondacare were contacted they had no trace of the vehicle. Turns out dealers were charging for warranties and pocketing the cash. If you get a £100 plus per vehicle you can afford to take the occasional hit if you have to carry out a repair at your own expense.
In my case turning up with a van with some work mates and threatening to deprive the salesman and his boss of their liberty regarding a deception lead to the full repairs
being carried out and a new full warranty.
The moral of the story being is always insist on getting the full paperwork for any vehicle warranty and have it invoiced on the bill of sale. Also let the saleman know that you will check yourself with the warranty companty to confirm the cover given.
As i said I would have thought that BM would be S*** hot on this type of thing but then again so should Honda.
P.S The dealer was investigated for irregularities by Honda and later lost their franchise. HOW SAD !
