After having ridden the new GS home yesterday - about 4 miles or so - I noticed that the exhaust headers had already taken on their bluey brown colour. I was expecting this to happen over time but does it normally occur so quickly on a brand new bike?

Yep but if that worrys you that much you can spend time with a tube of autosol once the bike cools down. When I picked mine up last april they went blue in the first few miles(didnt notice till I stopped beside Loch Ness to have a smoke) but that doesnt really bother me.

Leave it running on the centre stand and after a short while you'll see them glow cherry red!

Not a tech head but I'd say heat causes blue and as these baby's get hot I'd say you aint seen nothing yet.

Mine are also a brown, have crusty glazed sand on them and look very mucky but then so does the rest of my bike.

As it was the 1150's birthday...

I attacked the exhausts with Mr Solvols' finest crome and metal enhancing paste and found that the cross pipe above the sump plate shines!!!

The headers remain that distinct blue hue that adds to the overall charm and character of the gentlemans choice of steed.

All I hope is that the thorough wash got rid of all the salt that may have been about when I rode it last.

Came up a treat. And the wheels too.

Chuffed to bits I am.

Blue exhaust - nothing to worry about. The equivalent of my distinguished grey temples.
