Please help,
My computer was loading updates when it turned itself off - it is now on a loop where it gives the option of starting in safe mode safe mode with networking or starting normally - it then countsdown goes through the starting procedure flashes a blue screen very quickly (unable to read anything) then goes back into the loop, whatever starting mode i choose it goes through the same procedure then loops again,
Any thoughts would be appreciated
Andy

Start the computer and keep tapping F8, when the start up options screen appears (safe mode etc) choose the option "Disable automatic restart on system failure".

This will prevent the blue screen from disappearing and you will be able to read the message. Post the error code (something like 0x0000007E) back here.

Do you have the original O/S (I'm guessing XP here) installation disk? If so, boot from that and select the 'recover' option.
Sounds like something's trashed on your computer O/S.

Watching this with interest.
Mine has done the same :-(

If ILMV's suggestion doesn't work you probably have a hardware failure. First thing to do is get the side off and get all the dust bunnies out of there then remove your ram which are long thin circuit boards plugged in along their edge. Then put them back in. This effectively re-seats the connections and cleans them. If that doesn't work and you have two modules unplug one at a time (always leave one in though) and try to boot the PC. 75% of failures I have looked at have been RAM related. If that doesn't cure anything and you can access another computer then download http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd and burn the image to a disk. Try to boot from that with mini XP on the menu that comes up. If that succeeds your operating system is damaged and your looking at a repair from the original disk or a reinstall. If it still fails to boot on the CD then you have a fairly major hardware failure that's pretty much impossible to diagnose over the internet. Feel free to ask if you need any further instructions, you can even PM me for my phone number if you like.

Got to the error page.

Not sure what you need so.

oxoooooED (OX82F79630,0 XC0000006 OX 000000000X 00000000 )

Does that make any sense to anyone?

Would appreciate any help with this.

doesn't even appear on Microsoft technet. Was there any other text other than the usual windows was shut down to prevent damage?

If you can get past the safeboot without it doing a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) try booting again to the safeboot menu and then select last good config option (somewhere to the bottom of the screen from memory)
My old laptop did the same recently and I couldnt get safeboot windows to load without BSOD so selected that and it booted ok. I re did the windows updates... been fine since.

Firstly it is 0x000000ED (e.g. zeros, not o)

Right, check all the connections to your HDD (Power + Data), reboot and check if the problem has been fixed.

If not load the XP / Vista disk and find a command prompt, when there run this command:

chkdsk /r /p C:

Post back with the results

Dont have a boot disc :(

Have decided to pick up another pc, get that up and running then go back and work at rescuing that one at a later date.
