Hi all,

21 K1600GTL with 27.5k miles. Yesterday, I engaged the reverse gear and whilst moving backwards, I found myself surrounded by blue smoke.

It seemed to go away but when I arrived home last night after about 60 miles, there was definitely blue smoke coming out. The bike runs as usual.

Anyone got an idea where this oil is coming from? Is that something that happens?

Thank you

If only seen with a closed throttle it could be valve stem seals not sealing - on the intake stroke the vacuum pulling oil past the seals.

I would have thought unlikely with only 27.5k miles though.

Better than White smoke as it least you wont have a new Pope in your garage

Being a dry integrated sump, it's so easy to overfill the oil, even dealer techs do it occasionally. Just make sure it is checked by the book, with any overfill drawn off & then watch/monitor oil consumption carefully after every ride.

As others have said, there may well be oil in the condensate trap but that doesn't necessarily mean disaster, indeed the historic piston ringlands issues haven't been a problem for owners of late model bikes.

There is a wealth of info on the marque forum, well worth joining if you are not there already - www.k1600forum.com

Apparently, it should be something to do with the PCB valve and breather system. The dealer had a look and mentioned emulsion present so it looks like it will be the same as the video. Quite crazy that this happens on those bikes really.

Oil level was very low according to dealer.

Something isn't adding up to me - low oil & a crankcase vent issue. I can only think oil frothing, but there is a separator. Have they done a leak down or compression test?

Why not run it past the folk on the marque forum - some of the guys from the States have far more experience of the K16 than most UK dealers.

It was oil in the airbox indeed which the dealer cleaned up. Funny that it was not part of the service that was done 6 months ago.

That said, whilst in there the bike had its 1st MOT and the front suspension strut had a collapsed bearing...which pissed me off since I had told the dealer that there was a squeaky noise about 18 month ago (Did I mention it was serviced 6 months ago?), which they kind of told me was just dry rubber. Now, there is no squeaky noise anymore but a large bill, with the warranty having expired last August.
