I’m looking to go down the route of Bluetooth connectivity for my Zumo & phone.

I’ve seen a couple of units on the market; the fairly popular Scala Rider which has two ear pieces (does this provide stereo?) and sells for about £100ish on Amazon, and the interphone, which I saw in my local dealers. This is a similar set up, but with only one speaker and retails for about £150.

I think that I’m leaning toward the Scala unit due to the fact that it’s more popular, but as I prefer to wear ear plugs, the big question for me is will I hear anything?

Does anyone use a Scala/earplug combination? Does it work? I didn’t really want to go the route of made to measure earplugs with a direct connection.

There is a Scala Rider with only 1 ear piece as well so if you are after the 2 ear piece version, make sure you get the correct one (price will be different)

My 1 ear piece version was in the habit of randomly disconnecting from the Zumo - although the latest firmware om the Zumo does appear to have solved this.

I do also let my Nokia phone connect to the Zumo and receiving/making calls works quite well. Calls are receieved or refused by one tap on the screen, making calls is a few more taps as you can access the list of contacts from the phone and select from them to call - or dial the destination of your current route - assuming you entered the phone number into the waypoint for the destination.

Haven't tried it with ear plugs yet but from discussions with other UKGSER inmates, I gather you can hear in helmet speakers through earplugs which primarily reduce the lower frequency noises, not all noises.

This isn't exactly on point, but have you considered using in-ear monitors rather than simple earplugs. I had the Scala modified to allow this and even on the lowest volume setting it's plenty loud enough at motorway speeds. This way you get the benefit of earplugs without worrying that you might be missing Zumo directions etc.

The two speakers aren't stereo - they both provide mono sound. However, the quality of sound when using the phone is 1st class up to about 75 mph, but I suppose this will vary according to how quiet your helmet is...
