General question,

Does anyone use the above while wearing earplugs and still find an acceptable volume level i.e. at motorway speeds........:nenau

I had problems hearing commands on motorways and peages so invested in a pair of plugs from Ultimate Ear:
http://ultimateear.com/motorcyclist.php

You have to visit them or see them at a motorcycle show where they will take moulds form each ear and insert a speaker in one or both ear plugs.
I gave them the audio lead from my Interphone unit and they mated a plug and socket to the ear plug lead so now I can hear at all speeds.

Also I might add these are the best ear plugs I have ever had - they give you the original moulds so you can have another set made up - I had a plain set made when I dont need audio.

Another tip - I dont clamp or stick the bluetooth Interphone unit to my helmet - just place it in an inside pocket of my riding jacket and plug in the ear plug lead - works fine.

Regards,
Mike

Use Sena SMH10, generally without plugs for local trips but been doing motorway miles this week and used with the Yellow/pink plugs and whilst quiet, listened to Peter Gabriel all the way he and had a decent telephone convo too..
I am aware that some intercoms are louder than others but I can vouch for the SMH10 at least.

I use the ear bud clamp with the smh10 with a pair of etymotic in ear monitors, sound reproduction is amazing plus they work well as plugs as we'll when you've had enough of your favourite Metallica track

SMH5 fine for me with in-helmet speakers and foam plugs. Not hifi quality but fine for riding music. :drums As has been said, speaker placement matters!

Oh...and quite a bit cheaper (and smaller) than the SMH10. :thumb

I've played around with various configurations and helmets.
Thanks to a combination of my job, too many noisy concerts as a youngster and some shotgun shooting I'm susceptible to tinnitus. ( there is no bloody cure !)
I'm very anxious about exacerbating it ! Here are my conclusions;

* The Scuberth C3 Pro is simply the best helmet I've ever owned.
* The integrated SRC kit is loud and fully capable of being heard through ear protection
* I wouldn't ride without earplugs for fear of causing more damage to my ears
* Even in the quiet C3 Pro Its difficult to hear anything over 60 mph, noise levels seem to build up exponentially
(this kit is best suited to bimbling around rather than motorways)
* A good helmet is a better investment than messing about with perspex screens
(the Schuberth seems to prefer being in clean undisturbed air .)
* You wouldn't drive your car without the radio on - I find music really transforms motorcycle journeys

I agree with Stuart about the Schuberth C3 Pro and SRC system. Had mine about 2 months and love it. Again second what Stuart says about wind noise. All helmets are designed to be quiet in clean air (naked bikes) so I still get a fair bit of turbulence with my adv screen. Whereas on my wife's Aprilia scooter at 45mph the helmet is virtually silent.
Whilst in France last month at 60-70 mph and ear plugs I could still hear gps and phone perfectly. I don't enjoy music on a bike so don't listen. I am also quite deaf with tinnitus so was pleased to be able to hear what I needed at speed with plugs. I used a Midland BT2 prior to the schuberth on a shoei xr1100 and whilst great commuting at slow speeds it was no good at high speed with ear plugs.

I realise previous posts are re C3 Pro, and SRC, but my C3 and SRC has been the biggest pile of pants ever.

The helmet is fine, but leaks around the visor even when fully closed, the visor is a two handed job to lock down. The pinlock often seems to come loose and let's air in at the bottom and mists up.

The SRC is useless, kept powering off, and Bluetooth was very choppy, FM reception was poor. Schuberth didn't want to know about the problems.

Can't wait to get rid of the most expensive white elephant I've ever waster my money on.

Also, my RT with CeeBailey screen is a pleasure to ride with no wind buffeting or wind noise.

Just in my opinion of course....

I have used ultimate ear 'sound ears' with my BT scala G4 for 4 years now & it's all performed beautifully :D

No wind noise on m/ways, use only low volume levels of devices so protecting my inner ear etc.....

Wobble sorry to hear about your schuberth. My C3 PRO has none of your problems. Pinlock visor perfect, clicks shut beautifully with one hand and no leaks (in driving rain on a motorway too). So far so good with the SRC system too. I can't fault it. I appreciate this does not help you whatsoever with yours and trust me the amount I spent on it I would be pissed off too if I were you.

I have you considered have a moan at the supplier? ( sorry for the mini thread hijack).

The new Firmware update 5.1 for the Sena's boosts the volume to whatever you require, I am a little mutton jeff and still only use 60% volume with my earplugs in... positioning of the speakers is no longer as critical ...
If you put it to full volume your pillion will be able to hear it as well :D

If you require total volume control, get a Sena :thumb2

Yes, I find the volume on the Sena outfit I have (a SMH10R) is more than adequate, as does my wife on the pillion. I use earbuds (from a Sony Ericcson bluetooth unit, so nothing fancy) and I have no trouble listening to music at 160kph on the Autobahns here. My wife uses the Sena helmet speakers and is similarly ok with the volume

I have the Sena SMH 5 and have no problems with volume even though my hearing isn't the best. I think ear plugs help because they remove wind noise. But can't impress enough how important speaker position is, don't just stick them in spend a bit of time positioning them. You will be surprised where the best position is it's not where you would expect.

Hi Neil, sadly the supplier was. Hein Gerrickkkkke! And they jointed the ever growing list of suppliers in the sky.

Getting a new BMW helmet in a couple of weeks, so hopefully the supplier won't go bust this time .....
