Hi

As per the title, the BT appears to have stopped working on the bike.

It has the latest software, updated 05/2022, and worked perfectly until last week when all connections were lost.

I have now tried four separate iPhones, and left the bike battery disconnected over night. All with no good result.

Has anyone had similar, and is it a journey to the dealership to get it sorted?

Thanks

Bill

Let’s face it - connectivity on these bikes with the tft screen is a total disaster…..

In fairness, there are enough posts on this site to suggest that connectivity issues are not limited to ‘one or two’ bikes!

In fairness 30 people post about a connectivity problem, but the other 2000 never post that theirs is working fine. I would also suggest that many who have a problem will eventually find that they have set up their phone app settings wrong, or not set them up at all.

It'll happen!

Down to Bahnstormers this morning and its down to the bike. The BT light isn't flashing on start up, so booked in to be sorted.

Wien I ask around, most people with a TFT bike have some story to tell about their TFT regarding connectivity.

The technology has been used in cars now for 15 + years, and most people connect their phone to the car once, and the connection will remain stable untill the phone or car is being replaced..

I have currently two bikes with TFT in my garage. For both of them, the phone and helmet are connected to the TFT,

Wien it works, it is flawless.
However, I may be riding my bike, everything working fine.
And then, after making a stop, powering the bike up again, either the phone, the helmet, or both, may have lost their connection,. And the only way to get the item to work again is to perform a new pairing.

True, this only takes a couple of minutes as I have become good at it after having to do it several times a year.

It's not the ende of the world, but it should not be too much to ask for a more stable connection, given the fact that the technology has been around for so many years...

The only thing I noticed on mine is that phone and helmet's intercom have to be on before turning the bike on. Sometimes I forget to turn on the helmet's intercom before turning the bike on. That way, even if I turn the helmet on, it's not connected to TFT. For me it's simple. I stop the bike, turn the engine off and then back on, and everything is working fine.

I’ve gone to a 2016 CB500X with no BT. The connections I do have between my phone and my helmet comms connect first time, every time and stay that way. No dropping out or getting confused. I have had two GSAs with the TFT screen over a 4 year period and even with the latest software installed (an epic challenge in itself) they never functioned as they should.

I have a 2021 GS and have no problems whatsoever with the connectivity of the TFT screen and bluetooth. Everything works as it should and doesn't drop out on a ride or when I stop. It doesn't matter whether I turn the bike on before or after turning on my helmet - it all just works!!

Just thought I'd balance out at least some of the reports that it's crap - it works for me.

I've personally had no end of bluetooth issues with mine, to the point I don't bother.

I do agree that a small cross section of people doesn't make the entire brand crap, BUT, bluetooth is a pretty tried and tested technology and has been around for donkeys years now. Almost every GS owner I've spoken to has had bluetooth issues of some kind, and my local BMW dealer tells me it's one of the most common issues they are asked to look at across the TFT enabled range.

I powered up a Google Nexus 7 tablet the other day thats been sat discharged in a box in the shed for 4 years and after leaving it to charge enough to boot it immediately connected to my bluetooth adapter in my old Desktop PC. The same cannot be said for my phone/headset when connecting to the bike. It's a pretty well documented issue and although it's not every owners experience, it's a large enough proportion that it suggests something fundamental.

Getting basic bluetooth functionality working in 2022 should be something almost no-one has an issue with. I honestly don't remember the last time I had an issue either pairing something or keeping it paired.

Hi Bill, were you able to fix that problem? I’m suffering with the same issue and I’m desperate! First time in the morning it works. But if I turn off the bike for gas, it doesn’t work. It seems it needs to be at least 2 hours off to work again. Thanks for your help

Hi
BMW replaced the TFT out of warranty, I just paid for the labour. It’s been faultless since. You might see if it’s needs a software upgrade first, but mine was obviously bust.

Good luck.

Thanks for your answer. I'm on it but it is frustrating, It works intermittently. I'll let you know if I get it. Best

Best of luck. I've never had TFT/BT on a previous bike, but cos its there, I want it to work.
