BMW 1250 Technical Recall

My technical recall was completed this week, The bike was in for another reason and I suspect that the dealer wouldn't have told me they'd completed it unless I'd specifically asked.
They've also damaged the paintwork, not as badly as in tall lad's case but it wasn't there before the valve was added...

That’s caused by the clamping unit claw. They’ve failed to put something between the hard plastic claw and the swing arm.

Why the F do they even need a clamping `claw`/ jig / whatever to drill a fecking hole?
All BMW needs to do is show a piccy-wiccy to the `technicians` of where they want the hole to be drilled, they centre-punch it, and drill through? Provide a stop on the drill if you like to prevent drilling too far though.
All this clamp buisiness is overkill and through trying to be clever they`re actually causing even more problems!
Clowns.

Probably didn't help that my swing arm was covered in a thin film of dirt and no attempt seemed to have been made to clean it before the 'claw' was clamped to it.
I've emailed them - waiting for a response on how they plan to rectify it...

The clamp is to attach the measurement equipment as i understand it

Let us know how you get on. My bike is being picked up today and they will either ''polish'' the scratches out or repaint. We will see what the end result is. Absolutely shocking that this is happening and BMW have done nothing about it!?

The initial reaction from BMW was 'I'm confident we haven't caused that' but after a conversation with the tech who caused the damage they've now agreed to polish them out or repaint.

Just done mine. Let´s see for how long the rubber valve will stay in place. No scratches on the shaft housing as I brought fabric tape (used to wrap wiring harness) and asked mechanic to put it on the spots where claws will grab the housing. He did it and left not a single mark on the housing (swing arm).

Mine was done a week ago at the same time the headers were replaced for a flappy valve fault.
I checked the swingarm after reading this post and found the marks on the 3M Ventureshield.
Spoke to dealer who hadn't heard of anyone having damage issues with this recall but it's in for
a service in 2 weeks so they will remove the venture shield and either repair the damage or replace the ventureshield...I hope.

Hey GdS65, which dealer did you use? I have mine booked in at Williams in Manchester for service and mod to be completed on Friday 16th.

Btw, I am also in Prestatyn. If you ever fancy a run out for a brew, let me know.

Lads, buy a roll of fabric tape that is used for wiring harness. Even simple electrician tape would do the job. Take it to the dealer and insist to put the tape where claws are going to brace the swing arm. That is so simple to do and will save you a lot of hassle. That is what I've done and had not a single scratch after recall has been done.

It was Chester. Good service regarding the flappy valve issue.
Run out sounds good sometime. If only we had some decent roads in North Wales ;)

Cheers Glen,

I dropped into there a few weeks ago, but had a bit of a cold shoulder from them. Might give them a go next service time, when they are more established.

If you fancy a meet up and run, drop me a text on 07791990249.

Absolutely ridiculous! provide the dealer with tape to prevent damage, paying for a premium brand I expect premium service, not having to provide protection for my own bike!

People only post when they have problems , because they are seeking answers to the problems

so the problem is massive etc etc

when in reality, the problem is quite small

no OEM is immune. all have technical campaigns & recalls

Count yourselves lucky, your not dealing with the Takata airbag problem...

now that is one to be worried about ;)

I wasn't posting on here seeking answers, my bike was damaged whilst having this procedure done and I was simply giving people the heads up and as you can see from other posts it's happened to others too!

My bike was returned on Friday, after the scratches being ''polished''. The swingarm was nice and shiny but unfortunately the scratches were still visible!! After a lengthy discussion with the service manager and the supply of pictorial evidence, again! They have now agreed to replace the cardan tunnel with a new part. Bike being picked up next Tuesday. Really piss poor service! Didn't anyone think to examine the work before sending it back to me?

New shaft being fitted tomorrow to our RTp. Not bothered about scratches, the bike has done 60k a few scratches would probably enhance it :)

I took my 2015MY R1200GS Adventure into BMW Automotive, Malaga today for it's 50,000km service, I was told that it would take longer than usual because of the service notification requiring them to drill a drainage hole in the swing arm, when the bike was finished they also explained that they had tested the drive shaft and it had failed the test so they replaced that free of charge!

A thumbs up for customer service from Sandro at BMW Automotive.:thumby:
