BMW 5 Day Free Insurance

Anybody had/taken this when buying a new BMW? You can get 5 day free insurance; helps with taxing etc.

Anybody who has - have you noticed that the documentation says 5 days but the schedule and certificate are for a full year. Well mine does. Is this normal?

I used this as with my current policy I would need to add the new bike before collecting so as to tax it then deduct the old bike ( left at dealer as trade in ) after collection. This is two chargeable transactions. I could not do the change at the dealers because an e-mailed confirmation from the insurer is not sufficient for VED to be authorised.

I know the old adage about no consideration = no contract but the word 'free' is used and free does not need consideration I would have thought.

All the BMW dealers have access to the service and can't see them using it if any issues are likely.

nearly all car dealers have been doing this for years as it allows them to get the tax disc rather than th buyer having to do so. Really unsure why it says a year though!

I used it when I got the new 2010 GSA I live in France and the bike was going on the next boat out after I had put 600miles on over night for the first service.
As the dealer would not let it go with out tax used a mates Uk address .
Nearly messed up when the cops stopped me at 4am I went to give them my French insurance


I did this as the dealers said they had done this for others taking the bikes out of the UK.
But to be fare to BMW insurance the cost for a year was good !!

yep I took up the 5 day free option and could not better the quote that BMW gave me - So have taken out a years fully comp with them. Happy days

Even if it's a typo I'd get it addressed. If you insured it yourself and heaven forbid claimed I daresay there'd be a load of hassle that the bike was insured on two policies at once.. cue for a knock there from our insurance friends..

Yep its a comon practice with main dealers to do this (ford do it for ford buyers, Ford Insure)

It gets you up and running faster road tax etc they offer it in the hope you will do the full year, brings in a lot of new business for them also.

they generate a number and email your dealership..

But for new riders it doesnt apply you got to have 2 years with a previouse insurer.

BMW insurance is very good value for money, £140 fully comp for 2009 GSA plus 2007 K1200R including accessories. Age 46, South Cheshire
