organizing Mega-Moto series of races. And starting new class of national sports. As Super-Moto series are growing very popular seems to be right time to start ultimate Super-Moto series aka Mega-Moto having engines generating 100+ horsepower and huge torque. Tracks will be choosed accordingly - more straights and faster corners to make use of decent power, while speeds reaching more than 100kph which you rarely see on Super-Moto series.

KTM has 950 Super-Moto and BMW has it's HP2 that can be converted into SM (or both rather "MM" :))

Everybody can take part of competition having less than 1250cc Dual-Purpose bike.

So HP2 boys, time for fun on different competitions offered for you :)

Another BMW and KTM co-operation

Also BMW and KTM got together on rider-protection issues, developing new protective gear for neck-area that is very sensitive and causing much problems and serious injurys till deaths from past till today.

Translated from german with Babelfish (you'll get the idea at least what's going on):

BMWS and KTM sit down for protection of the neck spinal column a protection back effective to magazine with motorcycling An effective protection of the neck and spinal column range is in particular with Rallyes a still current topic. BMW motorcycle sat down in co-operation with KTM now to the goal of advancing the development of an adequate protection of these very sensitive ranges. A goal is it, the danger of injuries in the neck range, the neck spinal column, to reduce the Rueckenmarks and the schluesselbeins with heavy falls. The prototype from carbon fiber, absorption material and titanium, which are submitted at present with BMW motorcycle intensive test, shows very good results. The BMWS motorcycle research on accidents a high safety potential in that sees to prototypes due to the completed tests. The following accident sequences are decreased thereby - the necessary freedom of movement of the head remains nevertheless available: Hyperinflection: Overstretching the head forward Hyperextension: Overstretching the head to the rear lateral hyperinflection: Overstretching the head to the side axially Loading: Upsetting of the spinal column by application of force on the helmet For Endurosportler and road running drivers, but quite also for motorradfahrer in the daily traffic such nackenschutz is a large step in the range of passive security. "motorcycling is to become safer, we would like to contribute our part to it", then the leader BMW motorcycle, Dr. Herbert Diess, explains the decision to dedicate to this topic special attention. Further: "the concept is promising. If the system continues to fulfill our expectations, I can imagine well that we bring it in series." BMWS motorcycle and KTM co-operate closely with a team of specialists, under it accident researcher, bio mechanic, accident surgeon for back Mark injuries and not least with the South African physician Dr. Chris Leatt of Leatt BraceTM. Dr. Chris Leatt is the developer of this nackenschutzes. It engages itself in South Africa for security in motorcycling and accompanies as a caring for physician the South African running series. Won the realizations of the project team BMW motorcycle and KTM come the donation "Wings for Life" to property, which promotes the medical research for the rehablitation of Querschnittsgelaehmten. It is planned that the new concept is used for a minimized accident risk still this year by KTM work drivers and by BMW motorcycle with sportveranstaltungen.

Fantastic. Heard a rumour about this last year and didn’t think it was true. Any more details? Where are the races going to be held? I’d love to go and watch a race.

D'ya think they'll let a couple of fat old 1150 supamotos in as wildcards:D

See ya there Andy:thumb

Here's better description for protection co-operation from KTM web:

BMW MOTORRAD AND KTM WORKING JOINTLY ON A CERVICAL SPINE PROTECTION SYSTEM FOR THE SPORTS MOTORCYCLIST.

25.10.2005

New concept can substantially reduce risk of injury.

Munich. Effective protection of the neck and spinal areas, particularly in the case of the rally motorcyclist, is still as topical as it ever was. In collaboration with KTM, BMW is now aiming to push ahead with the development of an adequate system of protection for this extremely sensitive area. The objective is to reduce the risk of injury to the neck, the cervical spine, the spinal cord and the collar bone in the event of a serious fall.
The prototype made of carbon fibre, damping material and titan currently undergoing intensive testing at BMW Motorrad, is producing excellent results. Consequently, experts at BMW Motorrad Accident Research regard the prototype as having a huge safety potential. Its use can reduce the following injuries suffered as the result of an accident, but without any loss of the necessary freedom of head movement:

· Hyperflexion: overflexion of the head when forced forwards
· Hyperextension: overflexion of the head when forced to the rear
· Lateral hyperflexion: overflexion of the head when forced to the side
· Axial loading: compression of the spinal column due to the effect of force on the helmet

To the enduro motorcyclist and rally biker, but also to the motorcyclist in everyday traffic situations, this system of neck protection will mean a great step forward in the area of passive safety.

“Motorcycle sport should be safer and we wish to make a contribution in achieving this”, explains Dr. Herbert Diess, Head of BMW Motorrad, while commenting on the decision to dedicate a substantial degree of attention to this subject. He continues: “The concept is extremely promising. If this system continues to come up to our expectations, I can well envisage us putting it into series production.”
BMW Motorrad and KTM are working closely together with a team of specialists comprising accident researchers, biomechanics, accident surgeons specializing in spinal injuries and last but not least Dr. Chris Leatt from Leatt-BraceTM who developed the brace. He is currently involved in the promotion of motorcycle safety in South Africa and is employed as a consulting physician for the South African racing series.
The foundation “Wings for Life”, which has committed itself to the substantial support of medical research in the field of paraplegic rehabilitation, will benefit from the knowledge gained by the BMW Motorrad / KTM project team.
The new concept for minimising the risk of injury resulting from accidents is scheduled to be employed by KTM works motorcyclists and by BMW Motorrad before the end of this year.

As i understood they are testing the Mega-Motos on fortcoming test-meeting soon with KTM in Germany. And then start planning 2006 MM season series. All the privateers, hobbyists and pros can take part and have separate classes, so it'll be real national sports if all goes as planned.

Let's see what comes out of it then... It'd certanly be huge show for specators as well - high speed jumps, lotsa wheelies on acceleration and fast corners under huge performance of mega-moto bikes and benefits of huge traction of twins on different surfaces.

Looks like WMB and TKM making love. :D

Have you noticed that the engine is lower and have a different angle? The bikes also have a acrapovic full system with the crosstube much higher than normal. Picture

Probably because the bike's now running 17" wheels front and back - removing the 21" front wheel will cant the bike forward and lower it.

I too had heard rumours about the proposed race series and am very excited that it looks like it's now going ahead. Roll on 2006 :thumb
