Hi,

I'll be in London on business for a couple of days and whilst I'm there I'd like to try on and buy a Rallye 2 suit... Can anyone suggest shops that have the most comprehensive range of sizes in stock since I'm a tall git and I'll need to try the various BMW size options to find a combination that fits me...

Ideally if it's somewhere fairly easy to get to that'd be even better...

Cheers! :beerjug:

Park Lane have their showroom in, well, Park Lane as it happens! That is as close to central London as you can get. It might be worth contacting them by e-mail before you go to give them some warning of what you are looking for.

Otherwise, you are looking at Prestige in Bexleyheath, Sawbridgeworth in Hertford or SLM in Caterham as your next nearest locations.

Lisa Brodie deals with the clothing sales at Park Lane.

lisa.brodieATbmwmotorradparklane.co.uk.

On the subject of clothing, there was a thread recently on the subject of BMW not allowing dealers to return items to Germany which meant many dealers were reluctant to order in things for customers to try on as they were charged 20% to return unwanted items.

That has now been addressed and from the 16th August all bike clothing stock will be held in Germany only which means an extra couple of days to get it to the dealer but it is now returnable without surcharge to the dealer.

Should result in better customer service I would hope :)

Hmmmm..... interesting.

Miles at SPC has always been prepared to order something in for you to try. Also reassures you that you are not obliged to buy it if you don't like it.

Never mentioned that they would be stuck with the stock.

note: Sharon ... this is not a dig at you or your company! Just an observation from my own experience.

Hmmm...likewise Guy at Prestige.

Oooer...I should say Ex-prestige....how ya getting on with the wee man Sharon? :D

No offence taken, Novice - until this year our lot would order in anything but after having to sell a huge amount of stock off at ridiculous prices this year they took a harder line on it - I'm just glad all the dealers are now in a position to offer the service they should always have been able to without running up massive stocks of odd sizes etc :)

Guy is getting on fine, Fanum - getting to grips with the new software but apart from that there's nothing I can or need to teach him as you know :D

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FORM PARK LANE.

before you buy anything from BMW Park Lane -
search on this site for threads in "dealers" regarding them.

in my opinion the worst retailer i have ever had the missfortune to encounter.

maybe go and try it out for size at park lane - but don't buy it at Park Lane.. it would almost certainly be a schoolboy error.

They might get a bad press on the bike sales and servicing side of things, but my experience of dealing with Lisa in the clothing department was excellent. She was a pleasure to deal with.

And on the parts side of things, not only do they have Sharon, but they now have Guy who used to be at Prestige, so that side of things is well sewn up.

Sharon does her job adequately - she provides the kind of service i expect when paying "bmw" rates....

she only appears to shine so much because all around her (the majority of staff at park lane) are muppets who do not give a s*** about their customers.

before i bought a new bike at Park Lane i had used the same bike dealer for my last 4 new bikes over 3 years and not had a single reason to complain - since buying from Park Lane (new bike -new sat nav, new luggage, servicing) i have had several legitimate reasons for complaint.

Does that mean there are going to be less discounted stuff on offer at the end of each season :( :(

That's a real shame ... I can only afford it when its on sale

Perhaps your shitty condescending attitude might give us a clue as to why???

Steve

You may have a legitimate reason to run down the sales staff - I didn't like them when I contacted them last year (well the one guy I dealt with) but Sharon has been and is helpful to not only the members here, but everyone that goes into Park Lane - I might have thought twice aboout buying a bike there but I have no hesitation in dealing with the Parts Dept with Sharon & Guy there, in fact dealing with them has made me reconsider this. Btw - there's never really a correlation between how expensive the goods are and the service you receive...some of the best service that I have recieved has been when buying things for under a 100 quid...

Why not tell us what problems you actually had...?

park lane have been ok for me

i purchased my bike in sept 04 (1200gs) and found the staff i met there and who dealt with me to be decent and helpful and were what i would have expected from a bmw dealer

i have had the bike serviced twice at battersea and have no complaints there either and if i wanted to buy any more add on parts i would always contact sharon as she is also very helpful

Nadeem -
(and anyone else who wants to hear my reasons for my negative attitude towards bmw park lane)

i had a problem with the lock on one of my bmw panniers i was due to go away for a week and needed to use the pannier - not only did sharon order me the new part.. but she leant me a brand new pannier absolutely free of charge for the week. good service.

however...the only reason i received this service is because of previous poor service i had from Park Lane / Battersea.

i ordered (and paid for) the bike with an extra power socket fitted, it didn't come fitted at the first service.

the very first time rode the bike on the motorway the offside black plastic panel came free - bending back and then breaking off altogether. the sales staff put it down to the fixing not being checked at the PDI.

when the black plastic panel ripped off it damaged the silver metal panel flanking the fuel tank. park lane replaced both (plastic panel and silver metal panel) for free at the first service.

but...

the new silver panel did not match the colour of the original...the first being brushed metal - the replacement was shiny-i pointed this out to park lane - they said something along the lines of it couldn't be different because there is only one part number.....however when i returned to show the salesman who sold me the bike he agreed it was not acceptable and they then replaced the non damaged panel to match the replacement panel, about a week later.

i bought a bmw satnav2 from park lane, i had already paid for the loom to be hardwired from new. once fitted the satnav had a constant humm in my autocom system, and when the "speak" button was pushed the humm became a (nearly) painful BUZZ. i took it back - they "fixed it" i rode away-same problem, i took it back they - erm -"fixed it" i ride away - same bloody problem - no difference despite having spent 2 hours in Battersea.

i had already paid £228.42 for battersea to fit my autocom system7 to the bike. they finaly pinned the problem down to the minijack cable running from audio out on satnav to the aux2 input on autocom box. they spent a while changing it-problem fixed! i ride away - same bloody problem!!!! constant humm in helmet speakers....not fixed at all!! i take a look under the seat - they have loomed in the new cable with no slack in it whatsoever and plugged it into the music input - not the aux2 inptut - i start to wonder why i paid park lane £228.42 to fit an autocom system when the person dealing with it clearly has no idea what he is doing.

they conceed they can't fix it - they will need the bike back for a day or so to fix it. it gets booked in for the following week. they collect it from my house and give me a free courtesey bike. good service at last!

despite being "booked in" a week previously it took them 3 entire days to fix the problem. i did indeed ride away with it working this time.

i had a prang on the courtesey bike they gave me - i was rear ended by a car, not my fault - light damage to bike, about £500 worth.... i parted with £1000 there and then to cover the excess on the policy. a month later i contact them regarding how the claim was going (i had all details etc. of the 3rd party.and filled in all forms for park lanes insurance) no response to my email - i telephone them - they had no news- i suggest a try them again in a month. month passes - again i email them - no response (4 days) later i telephone them - still no news. another month passes - i do get a reply this time from the salesman saying he suggests i contact his boss to talk about it. i do so, 13 weeks have passed since parting with my thousand pounds...the salesman informed me the 3rd aprty is "un-traceable" (he gave me false details). COMPLETELY MY FAULT - I SHOULD HAVE CALLED THE LAW AT THE SCENE OF THE INCIDENT AND NOT BEEN SO TRUSTING....i would like to think that the insurers might have found the 3rd parties details to be false within a month (when i first phoned) or maybe within 2 months (when i contacted them again)...either the staff at park lane were to blame (not contacting the insurers like they said they would) or the insurance company were to blame for dragging there heels - i accept that knowing the 3rd parties details to be false would not have saved me the repair bill to courtesey bike - but it would have meant i got back the balance of my £1000 "excess" fee a lot sooner. (i accept that the reason i am £500 out of pocket is completely my fault - what i have issue with is the lack of help from Park Lane in settling the matter in a reasonable timescale.

phew.....erm...finished!

sorry about going on - but Nadeem did ask......

Fanum - people are entitled to shop where they like, people are also entitled to thier opinions..mine are strong enough in this instance to advise someone (asking for recommendations on where to shop) that i would not rush down to Park Lane for anything - be it sales, spares, servicing or anything else. in (all) the examples of poor service i have listed above my shitty condescending attitude was never a factor.

sorry for long tedious post.

;)

Steve - I was aware of some of the problems you had re: Autocom and having seen your bike with the new and original panels fitted it was fairly obvious the finish had been changed somewhere down the production line.
I was unaware until now of the drawn out experience after the accident on the loan bike - I can only apologise for that but as I have little knowledge as to how claims are dealt with by the company I can't comment on what went wrong in this instance. I can however pass on your comments to those who are better versed in this aspect of things.

If you wish me to look into this further, please let me know - you can contact me on 020 7819 2612 between 6am and 4pm and I'll be there on Saturday this week also if that is more convenient.
