I have done a search but there seems to be no detailed info on what people seem to think about BMW Assist. Are they on the ball if you are taking a continental tour or would you recommend taking out a seperate policy. When I go away I usually get my assistance through www.vehiclerescuedirect.co.uk they have proved on numerous occasions with the party i have taken that they are 100% reliable and worth every penny.

So what does BMW Assist provide, is it just breakdown or what about accidents. What experiences have you had with them?

Thanks in advance and you never know if we manage to stay on topic  we might have a valuable thread for future reference :thumb2

Got a flat rear tyre after a very long night shift last Thursday, I work in Central London.

I called BMW Assist at 07:43hrs

(...after struggling with the bloody rubber "plugs" and snapping them in half, I'll need advice on where to get a GOOD repair kit...)

Went back to the office for a cuppa and read the papers...

Got a call from the S.O.S Recovery driver at 08:29hrs saying "I'm outside!".

He looked at my rear tyre, told me it was near the end anyway, agreed to take me to the nearest tyre place (Essential, Hackney), pushed the bike in the van... and took me there in a jiffy!!!

Job done! Thank you BMW Assist!!!

:clap :clap :clap

(PS: Is it average for a rear Michelin Anakee to cover 8474 miles???)

Used them a few years ago now in the South of France. did not expect too much, but they were very good, knew the area, and turned up within 30 minutes. I was VERY impressed.

My only thought was after when you realise you do buy into a big organisation.
It's a much hackneyed statement, but that really was "the BMW experience" I would just expect RAC type contracted out service in the UK, but when I guy turns up in UK registered Discovery, that knows bikes, and knew the area, then that was what I paid for.

Oh and he fixed the bike!!

According to the new bike warranty they prefer to be known as Bmw Emergency Service. Geographical areas include United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland and Continental Europe. Bmw Emergency service is valid for 2 yeras from the date of first registration. United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland benefits include :
Home and roadside assistance
Storage
Onward travel/hotel accommodation
Replacement transport
Bike redelivery
Release fees
Specialist charges
Adverse weather conditions
Incorrect fuel

Continental European Cover also includes :

Roadside recovery and assistance
Storage
Onward travel/hotel accommodation
Replacement transport
Parts delivery
Bike repatriation
Additional UK or Republic of Ireland vehicle hire

All in all a comprehensive service and as Bmw say - whatever lies ahead - Bmw is right behind you :augie

Touring with a mate of mine when he totaled his bike (luckily he got off fairly lightly) just outside Granada.:eek:

Once we'd got over the shock and contacted BMW Assist (he'd only had his GS about 2 weeks and was covered by an Approved Warranty) they were brilliant. They recovered the bike back to the UK dealers, organised a flight home for him and paid all his medical and car hire expenses. He had to have an enforced stay in a hotel in Granada and I believe that was covered to.:clap

they are absolute shite IMHO
i've used them 5 times (yeah, yeah 1200's) only once has a BMW rep:nenau turned up, an he knew feckall about bikes. they just send out local recovery guys, who cant fix them, so any recovery organisation would do.
FPC gave up in doncaster last year, due to catch the ferry to france next day and they were just not interested in helping, hotel, dont make me laugh, assured me a technician would be right out, yeah, local recovery technician who knew feckall about BMW's, but his mate had a bike
they did offer me a car though, but not much use on a bike trip.
Luckily i knew a guy, who knew a guy at rainbow rotherham that actually came out to the hotel (that i had to pay for)and fixed it next morning:bow:bow:bow
if you have to choose, choose another

Well i've only used them once, so not a lot to go on.

But......I had to call them out on a Saturday night about 10.30pm as my bike would not start and i couldn't get home.

The guy arrived in a 5 series BMW all marked up.
He had driven 50 miles to get to me, got the bike going and even offered to follow me home just incase.

That one experience told me everything i need to know....worth every penny.

I called them out after heavy rain on the M2 swamped the handlebar electrics and left the right indicator permanently on. 90 minutes later a standard motorbike garage man turned up and poked some things and sprayed everything with WD40 without any success. In the end I took the relay out. His parting comment was "I don't know anything about BMWs - I'm a Harley Man". I've added the bike to my Greenflag for the van now.

I've never used assist. Had a puncture on the way to work last year, called out the RAC (bike automatically covered on my policy) they arrived in the time slot I gave them (fitted in with my work) and they did a temp plug as new tyre was required, hole too big. Excellent service.

Can't fault them.

Blew a gasket on jollies in France. They recovered me to SportMoto @ Nimes. Put us up in a local hotel with a hire car for the 18 hours it took to get fixed, since we had no bookings and planned to stop in Nimes anyway that was a real bonus. Taxis to and from the car hire spot. Bike ready to go.

Crashed a BCR on the last day of a Spanish trip last year. Police in attendance would not allow me to ride since fluids were all over the road.

Recovered to a garage, taxied to a car hire spot. Dropped off car at ferry terminal then collected another in Portsmouth which we dropped off at home in York. Bike returned 2 weeks later, only to be assessed as total loss (too much carbon fibre for it's own good).

3 Recoveries in 2 weeks with a K1200s with waterlogged ZFE Unit. All prompt and helpful, hire car for one of them lift to the petrol station for another :o .

Never had a techy who could fix roadside though. All local contractors.
