BMW at the NEC - Some thoughts.

I will have to echo the previous comments - the BMW stand at the show was OK but they hadn't made much of an effort, certainly compared to the other exhibitors such as Norton, Ducati, KTM or even Royal Enfield. All of what was on display at the BMW stand could easily have been adverts in a magazine - and you would have gleaned about the same amount of information from a mag to boot. There was very little to make anyone detour to their stand. Perhaps they are confident enough that the BMW branding will attract all those buyers who they need.

You're probably correct! I haven't been to a bike show for years because I'm not in the market for a new model.
I bought my TC TB GSA because I'd wanted one for 12 years and it was the bike on the road (or, actually, gravel) that I was sold on.

Maybe they are putting their show budget into the GS Experience at the show. You can sit on a GS there.

Yesterday (monday) there were plenty of punters sitting on the bikes. Obviously the customised ones were roped off, but the mass produced bikes had plenty of arses sat on them.

R1200GS - Somewhat disappointed that they only had a Rallye (yep that's how it's spelt in the glossy 2017 brochure available at the show). It wasn't possible to sit on it but I think we know there aren't any significant changes as far as the rider ergonomics is concerned. I noticed that the new panels on the side of the radiators looked ok and that the radiators had stone protection grids fitted.
Which brings me to the 2017 model brochure - I have to question whether BMW are prioritising the GSA over the normal GS for a number of reasons a) No normal GS was on the stand while the GSA was well represented even though there didn't appear to be any changes to it b) the brochure page 11 only shows the normal GS in 3 miniature pictures, the Black Storm, Iced Chocolate and Light White, all three pictures are so small you can't actually see the colours! Even worse the Light White picture is the current model and not the 2017 model c) Have they down graded the electronics on the normal GS? Page 11 lists Optional Equipment which doesn't include Rider Mode Pro i.e. no Dynamic, Enduro etc. This is of course listed for the GSA but has not been included in the GS options.

A few Photos to accompanie the description. Just to add, rubber frame protectors look like are removable, which makes me think these will be available to buy as an optional extra. Plastic radiator grilles and air ducts have grills over them.

Yep, good point. After all the fuss some dealers made about how you can't fit guards, BMW then go and fit them.

Why all the R9Ts ? I actually have one of these bikes, but I feel now that Bmw are going bit too far with it and will spoil the " exclusiveisness of owning one .

What on earth gave you the idea they could be "exclusive "!

It's like buying a Ford; then complaining "there are an awful lot on the road!"

I admire them mass producing R9T's , I think it helps get the price down to 9K ... and the range of choice is fabulous!

Was the BMW stand manned by the same staff as in their dealerships then ?
