Hi all. Quick question on the BMW charger plus- that's the latest model canbus charger- mostly because the instructions are a bit over simplified and dumbed down.

( Not intended to create yet another thread about the relative merits of aux vs direct battery connection or whether Optimate is better etc etc ;) )

So, plugged into the aux socket, it starts charging, no problem. It peaks at 14.4V, bulk charges there for a few hours while current drops. Once it's happy that the battery is charged it goes into a power save mode- the display lighting switches off and the power light flashes. All good. If a button is pressed it says it's in an energy save mode and shows zero amps and zero volts (which doesn't seem like a way to inspire confidence, but there you go... I presume it's because the port has shut down). Now onto battery maintenance.

Now it's supposed to periodically check the battery condition and maintain charge. When it does that, presumably it needs to reawaken the port and provide a float charge. Does the charger display change- ie, does the display light back up again or does it stay dark with the power LED flashing? The manual doesn't say.

Thanks!

It works with the ECU/CanBUS system to monitor the charge and when it does "re-awaken", the display lights up again whilst it brings it back up to level. Depending on what you have and haven't got fitted and active (alarm, tracker etc) it may do this once every day or so or even longer, but when it does re-awaken it def lights up again

Brilliant, thanks Hawkeye- I'll look out for it. Battery seems happily sat at 12.8v for the last few days (tracker only) so not sure what point it kicks back in. I guess there's got to be a chronjob to boot the port back up then test voltage and either charge or go back to sleep. Might connect a logger to see if I can find out a bit more.

Thanks for video could you be so kind to translate for me .
