Before I talk to the dealers, does anybody know if its possible to get replacement thinner cheek pads for the Evo 6 helmet?

Mine's comfortable apart from the cheeks pads, its ok if I raise the flip up but as soon as its closed it becomes uncomfortable around my lower jaw. Usually takes about 30 minutes until I really find it a problem but after an hour or so its a struggle to put up with it. Obviously it wasn't that noticeable when I was trying various helmet sizes on at the dealership.

Had it for 6 months now so I don't suppose there's any further "bedding in" of the liner.

The manual mentions briefly changing the liner but I don't want to spend more money and find its no better.

My dealer told me that if I find the cheek pads uncomfortable after the bedding in period they could fix that but couldn't do anything if the crown of the padding was a problem.
I assume by that he meant they could change the cheek pads

I am on my second system 6 evo helmet in 18 months . The first one was bought with the advice of the dealers saying that the lining would relax, however it did not change at all with use . So eventually I removed the cheek panels and unpicked the outer covering . I then cut them on a band saw reducing their thickness in half . After that the helmet was a lot better, but sadly I had a small spill and scratched it , so I bought a new one the next size up. The change in comfort is amazing, so I would recommend you sell it and buy the next size. However as with all things BMW it really costs. Even when I reduced the side panel thickness it did not feel like a £450 helmet.
Good luck with the dilemma

When I tried the next up on at the dealers it was obviously too big, there was a lot of movement on my head when the chin strap was done up. I wouldn't be confident in the safety aspect of a helmet that fitted that loosely.

Part of the problem I think is that I have a Shoei sized/shaped head, the sizing between BMW is slightly different by a cm. BMW large is 60/61 but Shoei is 59/60.

I might try different cheek pads if I can't get used to it. Alternatively bite the bullet and go back to Shoei if the cheek pads are a ridiculous price.

I'm not 100% sure on the Evo but you could get different pads for the original System 6, although only by going up or down in helmet sizes with no intermediate sizing. You might have already looked but the BMW accessories price list just refers you to the dealer for prices and part numbers.

On the original System 6 the cheek pads are attached to the collar and you replace the whole lot, IIRC they were around £75 for the set a couple of years ago. The helmet comes in a couple of different shell sizes and I'm not sure if all pads are compatible with both sizes.
