BMW HEATED GRIP KIT

I had the unfortunate luck of buying a bike that was imported into Florida without heated grips. I’ve tried aftermarket types and I think I’d like to stick to a stick kit for this bike.
Does anyone have a line on an economic stock kit for my bike? Besides going through my dealer?

Try Motoworks for new right hand switch gear 2nd hand, 2 grips new and the connector and pins which go to the connector which is already under the tank the fuse is already there. I did this what you end up with is a factory fit. Check that there are holes for the wires to come out of the bars these are just under the cross bar if ii remember. the job is simple the hardest bit is removing the tank.

You're right, it's an easy job but not that cheap. However, the grips are of good quality unlike my mate's Oxford ones that keep failing. You'll find it a good idea to buy the stuff from Motorworks (or James Sherlock). I did it, and despite the cost (Iwent through my dealer) I haven't regreted it once. Mmmmm toasty....

Any chance you took pictures of the install? Or have the part numbers for the connectors I need? Sorry, I'm nervous about messing with my electrics.

Its not really messing with electrics, Moto Works provided all the kit if you speak to them they will tell you everything you need but I will try and find the invoice. I did not have a digi camera at the time

The sequence of work is:-

1. Bar ends and hand guards off tank off
2. Remove grips
3. Remove the right hand switch gear which is fiddly and fit the new/previously owned bit which has the grip switch on, the wiring loom is not touched.
4. Feed the wires for the new grips through the bars this was suprisingly easy the holes are such that the wirs just pop out.
5. Push the connector "bullets" into the plastic shell
6. Mate the connectors under the tank.
7. Tank on, check a fuse is fitted (mine was) refit everything
8. Warm hands

When Bath Road Motorcycles made me the kit they sold me some fuses. It took me ages to realise that they were all ready fitted!!! D'OH!

When I bought my first new GS four years ago the dealer told me heated grips were a factory-only option because they required an uprated alternator to cope with their power drain.

Was this claim bollocks then?

They ommitted to tell you that the uprated generator also is used for the ABS system. Heated grips do not need it. I power the H/Grips, 2 heated jackets, fogs or spots.

I think the bullets were on the wires however the bulletts are standard items that you should be able to get from any car accessory shop
