BMW K100 K reg

A friend has this BMW K100 K reg. with an intermittent fault.

The starter motor will sometimes spin over without the key or anyone near the bike!

Anyone encountered this before ? A solution would be most useful

Change starter solenoid in the big plastic box under the rear of the fuel tank

I bet ya it happened once when the battery was really low??? It welded the starter contacts together a good "thump" on the box or rear of the tank can sometimes loosed it depending on how badly welded it is! Solution is to change it!

Once changed keep t'bike on a trickle charger (checking electrolyte levels regularly) and if it makes any sluggish startin sounds stop and get a car battery to jump from

Low volts = higher amps + welded / burned contacts!

Nice try, but the key phrase was intermittent, I.e. not a welded up soleniod. This would be permanent

IF it does it after he pushes the start button?????

Trust me on this eliminatin Dude I used to fix these for a livin at the local stealership!

Low volts = higher amps + welded / burned contacts!

The "burned" contacts are not letting the starter solenoid release
