BMW Kit + Gore-Tex liners

Looking at the Saniago suits with optional GoreTex liners, which then leads me to the thought "Why the hell are the liners optional"? The kit is expensive enough without them, or is it a case of the kit itself not being good enough for Gore to put their name on it properley?

Am i being over synical (s?) there:o
 
Ever thought that there may be countries/climates/markets that might not want GoreTex?

Seems like good sense to have a system of optional layers rather than make stuff specifically for markets. :nenau
 
I've got a Savannah 2 which was the foreunner of the Santiago.

The "outer" of the suit isn't waterproof and in fact is barely showerproof. Without the goretex liner you will be p*ss wet through if a passing gnat so much as spits.

With the liners though, its a good suit, although a little chilly in a UK winter.
 
Some people don't like waterproof liners, they prefer waterproof outers. In which case the Savanna / Santiago work to their tastes as well.

Just seems so bloody expensive when my rev-it cost a lot less and has the liner included so if i don't want it i can take it out and it's there when i need it.

Suppose the bottom line for me here is the expense, serves me right for looking at BMW kit then:aidan

Agreed, but in this case the troosers (without liners) should be cheaper.

Have to say I have often thought what a ripp off it is to have to pay what WBM charge for their troosers and then have to pay extra for the liners.

I'm trying hard to remember when I last paid RRP for some BM clothing. And I don't think I have :) That helps to make it seem better value, especially when it lasts as well as my bits of kit have.

Back to the liners, I'm seriously thinking of going the waterproof outers, as if it's showery, then the last thing you want to be doing on a motorway hard shoulder is pulling off your trousers so that you can fit the liners :blast And I'll have to worry about it not being goretex, which IMHO isn't really an issue.

Do you mind if i ask where you get your kit from or how you get the price down? Always thought BMW were known for their inflexability on prices:nenau
 
End of season sales ;), and on here occasionally :)
Not just that, dealers can discount stuff (and do). It's the bikes/cars that they won't discount.

I've never paid ticket price for any of their gear.

BMW stuff may appear expensive. For me the expense is justified primarily because their kit works and more importantly, it lasts.
 
Full Savannah 2 suit including liners for £210. Brand new with tags from fleabay.

Streetguard 2 Jacket £295 brand new from Williams in Manchester (also via ebay). I'm still waiting for the matching pants and certainly won't pay £355 ticket price for them.

Keep your eyes peeled. There are bargains to be had.

I got 15% of a new System 4 visor yesterday just by asking and looking a little offended by the price.
 
Like MikeP said, when I go riding in summer, I want to be able to have the vents open on my suit, so taking out the Goretex liner makes it a great suit in hot weather. Zips aren't waterproof & if you have a suit which has been made to be waterproof from outside, it won't have the vents...

As for the trews, I have a couple of pairs of BM pants, but only wear them when I know I'm getting wet - eg: trail riding in winter (or any other time for that matter :augie). For road trips, I'll always wear leather pants & put overtrews on, if it rains. That means I can take the overtrews off when I arrive at my destination & don't have to sit around in wet gear.

My best bargain was a Rallye 1 suit in black/white, with liners, for £85 incl delivery. Bought secondhand off eBay.de 4yrs ago & I still wear it as 1st choice of gear, esp for trail riding.
 
Although i do not buy the BMW kit as the price is horrendous here in Thailand what kit i do buy often comes with a waterproof liner included. I have never used them at all, so i would be happy if i could buy kit without it !!

I find that even the best goretex makes you sweat so much you may just as well of got wet in the first place !! I carry an over jacket for when the monsoons open up, but other than that i just keep riding when the normal rain comes. It often only lasts for a short while and in this climate you are dry again in 10 minutes.

So i think BMW are correct in selling them separately as not everybody requires them.

Janet at Williams Manchester had the liners on the sale stand last Saturday.
 
Just got a used Santiago off e-bay recently for about £330 inclusive liners for jacket and trousers. I say used, but it is in almost perfect condition with the original tags and still packed in the BMW carrier it came in, so you can get a good deal if you are careful and patient. There seemed to be quite a few jackets and trousers new on e-bay at discount prices, but without liners.
