Saw the new GS12 at the NEC show yesterday. It has an LED rear tail light assembly:

Anyone any idea if this will be able to be retrofitted to the current 1200? No one on the BMW stand knew.

Yep, these are retro-fitable and the bling LED indicators too

I have Nippy Norman's LED rear light with a clear lens. That was expensive enough at about £85 - I dread to think what BuMW will be charging - especially as loads of people will want one.

According to my dealer, they're around £80 and shouldn't cause any problems.
After seeing Thunders bike yesterday, I have to say the rear light is really cool and I want one (rear light).

After many brake bulb failures on my R1200GSA, I got fed up of replacing bulbs ... two dealers gave the immortal "oh, they all do that ...", so I switched out my taillight for a Nippy Normans led design and decided to do the indicators while I was at it. I already had specified the bike with clear lenses.

In the process I went for a combination unit for the indicators, with a brake embedded in the indicator also. Looks pretty good now and certainly wakes up car drivers behind in traffic. Had quite a few friends comment on the strength of the output behind ;-)

Took about 30mins to complete the job (3 lights) and its all reversable if I sell the bike, as it doesn't involve cutting any of the old wiring away.

They've been on there over a year now and no problems at all with failures, the vibration and crap BMW sealing was definitely seeing the old ones off at a fair rate ... and I also had a little chuckle to myself at the NEC when I swa the new BMW design.

I can post up pics if anyone wants to see ...

Just an update on the original question, the 2008 LED rear light clster is a straight fit on any model 1200 and costs about £80.

Dealers have been advised that the can bus system will need an update to the programme to prevent a rear brake light blown message appearing.

Thanks - :thumb2

Oh, and I've just found out that you'll need another wiring piece at a further £16.00 (plus £72 for the light plus the cost of the canbus update).

Starting to get rather expensive. :(

When I walked up behind the new 1200 at the bike show here in Utrecht last week... this was the thing that bugged me actually...

They've put a very nice LED brakelight on the back... but just 3" to either side is an incandescent turn-signal bulb... WTF is that?

Al...

I've used a Wunderlich led taillight since my bike was new(06):), It works. The build in resistor works, so you will not get fault message:thumb
