Just looking for forum member views on BMW Warranty, I just had letter explaining that my warranty will soon run out and I'm being offered another 12 months cover for around £280, its to cover a 2011 F800GS which will be doing around 12,000 a year.
Do you think it's value for money ?

Sorry, forgot to mention there's a £100 excess involved

Thanks in advance

Personally I would have said yes, just for peace of mind, however I did discover a few months ago that the bike has to be serviced at a BMW DEALER, with the extended warranty, unlike the 2yrs BMW warranty.
As a result ive cancelled my extended warranty as ive had it serviced at an independent.

In my opionion it's not a warrenty but an insurence policy JJH

Was there not a thread recently saying the small print regarding dealer servicing had changed, I maybe wrong it happens frequently:eek:

Extended warranty

Yes, the extended warranty is more like insurance policy. I have used for first 2 years, but don't use it anymore.

Regarding the servicing by independent dealer, there is a discrepancy in what various dealers say.
Upon my inquiry whether the bike has to be serviced by dealer to keep the extended warranty, the answer is: NO, it only need to be a VAT registered garage. This answer was obtained directly from BMW insurance services, who provide the extended warranty. However, the job done under extended warranty needs to be done by BMW dealer.

Having said that, my dealer would still claim, in order to keep the extended warranty, I need to do servicing at BMW dealer (meaning him).
I also felt, that making claim under the extended warranty may be tricky. For example, when something is wrong, extended warranty does not cover the diagnosis to find out what is wrong. Only the replacement of faulty part.

See this thread to give you very rough idea of what sort of issues people have experienced and at what mileage.

The 800GS seems fairly reliable and you have a good chance to be without major issues for few years.

The dealer is bound to say it has to be done there, what counts is what's the policy says follow that and you shouldn't go wrong.
