I am currenly looking on one BMW Navigator III:drool on Ebay. From what I've read, it is quite a nice unit.
The person selling it had it on K1200 or so. However, when I have read the service manual to my F800GS, I found, that the GPS cradle is mounted onto a clamp, that is mounted onto the handlebar via some kind of special screws that have thread inside them and that replace the original screws (see picture).
As the screws are not part of the unit for sale, I do not want to be screwed up. Does someone have any experience with mounting the unit? Is it eventually possible to fix the cradle to the bike some other way, or to order the parts needed from the dealer?

I'll be grateful for any opinions.

Many thanks

Vaclav

Is it is eventually possible to fix the cradle to the bike some other way... ?

Hammer and nails, tie wraps, gaffa tape, ram mounts or a bit of home made bracketry :augie

....or to order the parts needed from the dealer ?

Now that's a good idea :thumb

Or just take the bike in to the dealer and ask them to fit it might be a safer and better option ;)

Good luck ... you have a formidable task ahead of you :comfort

Screws 2 and 3 in diagram could be changed to a ball mount, look at RAM-B-367 (www.ram-mount.co.uk) with M8 thread ? .. or around handlebar with RAM-B-231Z which is part of mount kit RAM-B-149Z-202 or RAM-B-149Z-G1 .. so round base (RAM-B-202) in the kit attaches to Garmin cradle with four hole AMPS fix pattern.

I did mention Ram mounting Steve ... honest I did ;)

I like the idea having lot of gaffa tape all over mi pride, I really do. But maybe this time I will to for something more conventional such a the Ram mount.

Should also mention my two fellow countrymen, who would probably go for gaffa tape.

The two screws on the scheme are followed by another two and then the bracket is fixed by four little screwes what go inside the big ones holding the handlebars.

Just one thing I dont entirely understand. Should the Ram mount fit the BMW cradle (that has the buttons), or I just get 2820 Ram holder that will hold the Navigator III?

Just one screw is replaced by one with a ball at the top, then the RamMount will place your GPS just wherever you want it ... long arms, short arms etc. will fasten to the GPS cradle ... all a bit like Leggo
