History is that the BMW Nav is based upon an existing Garmin unit, yet there is no Garmin MOTORCYCLE unit that I can find on their site with an 800 x 480 screen size. I find various Nuvi models that all have fewer features and are not waterproof as far as I can tell.
Can anyone shed any light on what this unit is based upon?

Seems it's another first... Usually the BMW unit followed the Garmin unit by several months...

Totally oblivious to this thread and the news that there was a new Sat Nav out I dropped into my local dealer on Saturday to buy the Navigator IV and was delighted to hear that not only was there a newer version out but that they had one in stock ready to go.
Stuck it on the bike (it fits the TE housing) and used it all weekend. A great bit of kit BUT BEWARE
I put it in the cradle this morning, pushed the levers to the lock position, turned the key in the lock and then set off. 100 yds down the road it popped out and slithered down the road.
It appears that you can do all the above but clearly it is possible that it sits in just the wrong position fooling you visually and the locking system too. So if you do buy one make sure that once you put it in the cradle you give it a good shake to make sure it really is in situ.

When you got to the town you didn't know you stopped at a filling station and looked at the one they kept behind the counter.
I've had a quest 1 and a now a Navigator IV.
I look at maps for pleasure now. Happy days.

Real bikers can read maps and those who can't should learn, they won't regret it.
Those that can't learn shouldn't be let out of the house without a grown up - let alone ride a motorcycle.
Not sure where this "us" and "them" attitude comes from! Satnavs and maps are not mutually exclusive! When you're leaving the middle of a big town centre and you've worked out from your map that you want to be on the B4123 to Digereedoo then the satnav comes into it's own to steer you through all the one way systems and roadworks to get you out of town and onto your selected routes. Best of both worlds. Simples.

You need to download from you phone onto a hosting site, such as photo bucket, It is a bit of a fag, have you got a teanager who can help?
