Does anyone know how to tell if a bike has been used from the original reg?
Obviously marks etc would be evidence, but its easy for them to change venerable parts cheaply.
I have seen a trade bike that says it has been used with 6500 miles and dose't look bad - I would nt have known.
The bike I have a deposit on has only done 800 miles. The salesman says he doesnt know! but is confident it hasn't due to the condition as you can tell when they have?

I'd wager that the salesman is being economical with the truth. He'd surely know where it came from?...even from within the group...

I believe that Guildford are the ones who still supply their Wales Off Road Centre, and take them back/sell them on afterwards.

Nope. They never did.
Always has been BMW UK who supply them and the logbook will show either BMW UK or BMW Press and then was Bahnstormers who bought them for resale until they got their fingers burnt and stopped taking them all from BMW.
For a number of years now it's ORS themselves that do it on behalf of BMW UK.
They go direct to auction on a trade only platform.
Any dealers who want to have some for stock or who have clients asking for them bid in the same way as smaller companies do.
ORS then arrange the shipping, etc.
Main giveaway is the registration prefix.
Also its surprising just how many are on eBay with the ORS numbers and plates still on them giving their history away.
One such dealer in Hampshire was trying to punt a number of them on eBay as "owned by BMW Press fleet" with all of the scars and the plates complete with the bottom line showing the model and ORS key number.

No. Indicators are left on them. Rears are moved to underneath the rack as they get broken but fronts are left alone.
That and barkbusters are the only mods other than Karoo 4’s being fitted. The OE tyres get refitted when they’re sold.

FWIW I know someone who bought an ex-ORS bike last year. It was actually in perfectly decent condition, and good value. He does a lot of miles, parks it up at the airport, etc so he wouldn't have been bothered by a few minor scrapes anyway.

At a quick glance, the ones I have seen have the one piece Rallye seat, have not seen any Tripple Black models as ORS bikes either.

Plenty

Plenty of low bikes run a single front seat - often with a low seat too.
That’s because the school keeps them for that.
The bikes all have a single rallye seat if it’s a 1250.

They are all 1300/900 now excluding the instructors.

I reckon at a good price any of those bikes are a good buy. 95% of the riding is slow speed.

If you do highway miles or are looking for a workhorse instead of a show pony they are perfect. Clutch would be the only thing to be of any concern (maybe)

There are other BM stealers who sell BM off road bikes.
I looked at 1 online in a a stealer in the Wolverhampton area - he said it was from the Spanish off road school!

The 1 I was looking at was a bit tatty - it would have made a great off roader/green laner as was cheap but I wanted a road bike.
It was a single seat Rallye

Unless that’s a private reg, that’s not an ORS bike
2 years late, but that was my bike. G7LJV is my VRM and was assigned to the bike from new (1250GS Rallye factory low version). I sold the bike back to Sytner Motorrad at around 800 miles following a shoulder injury. Privately owned, with minimal leisure miles and was in mint condition when I sold it.
