BMW ownership does it make you worry ?

That is encouraging - when you consider the cost of a new chain and sprockets it ain't bad. I guess the £1k + commonly quoted is for a replacement rather than a rebuild :nenau
 
It worries me.... But only only because I sold my GSA to a big boy who might hit me if it goes wrong.
 
What make me chuckle is those sanctimonious pricks at Triumph giving it large about their new Malaysian bike the Explorer. I was reading about it on Ash On Bikes. Apparently they kept on banging on about how superior their FD was and how much more reliable it was. It should be considering when the BM FD was designed Herr Hitler was running amuck in Poland!
My experience of Triumph when I bought a new Tiger in 2001, which had really squeaky brakes from day 1 was poor. They blamed the way I braked (it turned out the forks were not straight -from NEW!!!) Have a read through any of the Triumph forums (or any bike or car manufacturer for that matter) they are full of people with issues and problems. That is the nature of all mechanical things.
In 20 years time, when the Chinese motorcycle manufactures dominate new bikes and we are discussing the Chinese Fung Shu (ADV copy) we will look fondly back at he golden age of motorcycling.
 
I've only read the first post and haven't followed the flow of this thread, but in answer to the original question I don't worry about my bike, I just get on a ride it. I've had to have the spot light switch replaced but other than that it's been great. I've not once got on my bike and thought "I hope this doesn't break down whilst I'm out".

I do think though that Japanese tend to be more reliable than anything else, whether it be cars or bikes. fro some reason German machines have this aura of being ultra reliable, which just isn't true. BMW's and Audis in particular are not overly reliable, whether it be mechanics or electrics. That being said, there's far more problem free vehicles than ones with issues.

I've had more issues with Triumph bikes than any other to be honest.

Im afraid i disagree

The 3 jap bikes ive had over the years - ZZRs and GSXs were riddled with problems. Rusting down pipes, seized calipers, cracked rotors, worn timing chains. Non of which were particlularly high milers of very old.

My parents too always harp on about how good the jap cars are yet alway seem to have issued with thier own. Theyve have Toyotas, Lexus and Hondas and alway asking me to find out what this warning light means and why is the CEL on.

The only thing I worry about is whether the battery is going to start the bugger or not. It always seems to struggle and labour to turn the engine over fast enough to start, and yet it always has, always does and its 4 years old this week. Once the engine catches I can relax and ride the darn thing. Worrying is pointless and only detracts from the enjoyment the bike can give you.
 
I sleep soundly at night safe in the knowledge that my 2007 12GSA now belongs to someone else .........

......... Sadly, never again.
 
I must say that this place is a goldmine of info regardless of what bike you ride, thats why I'm still here :D
 
Never worry about the GSA, 2007 50k miles on the clock, apart from 1 bulb, 1 HID bulb,and a battery never had an issue with it.
