I'll take a stab at it:
BMW present the new 1250GS = BMW reveal their latest GS and will be happy for those with more money than sense to shell-out to become Beta-testers before finally getting the bike about right just in time for the next modal change.

The headlight and sidepanel is from Mrs P's £4995 G650GS.........!
Looks nice though and not too different from the current GS........Kind of mirror image!

well there shouldnt be any beta testing as its well known they have been putting this bike through its paces for the last four years
im not sure about that headlight though !

Where are the GSA spot lights?
I agree with reservations over the apparently carried over Adv seats and rear carrier assembly (photoshop ? ) if this is the finished article it appears the current luggage solutions may be carried over too

All have had much effort expended to develop them, all have provided the first buyers with patchy experience. That's what happens with new bikes from BMW these days, it's the reality that's all.
It's long been a truism that the best thing to do is to buy the last version of the preceding model, most of the problems will have been sorted and they'll be loaded with options that were once expensive add-ons.
How many serious issues affected any of your 1200's or any of the other bikes you mention Mike, you do have first hand experience of catastrophic failures with these bikes don't you
I'm on my third 1200 now and whilst it's early days for no 3 they have all been totally reliable and affected by none of the well documented "issues" , my 06 bike was one of the first Adventures and my 09 one of the first of the "facelift" models, the twin cam had been available for a year before I got mine and as the last of the oil/air cooled 1200's maybe it's this one that future collectors will hail as the last of the true GS s , of course the purists will dismiss the ssshhhhhh.........Triple black and 30 year anniv models as run out ,marketing excercises and not worthy of their elevated prices and desirability

Not sure I agree with that. They're loaded for a reason. As a rule of thumb I think they end up costing you more - in depreciation - once the new model is out.
That isn't what Mike was saying, he made no reference to depreciation. He was merely pointing out that the run out models represent better value for money in the showrooms and in most cases are the peak of the model develpoment. He's right, the same thing has applied to the car insdustry for decades. If you want a fully sorted product buy a runout model.

Bottom Left (Brakes)
New brake system with radially mounted calipers.
Middle Bottom (Engine)
The new boxer, for the first time is liquid cooled. Intake and exhaust are opposite in the longitudinal direction.
Middle Top (Faring)
On the sides of the fairing vents, lie the radiators.
Bottom Right (Swing Arm)
Great news, the shaft is now on the left side. (Inverse of the silencer)

Depends how you define 'value for money' - for me the cost of ownership is key and depreciation is the biggest factor. The fact that I save a few hundred on the ticket price is a lot less important than the money I'll lose over 2 or 3 years.
I take the point about the model being sorted - and have found my 2010 a lot more reliable than my previous 2006 (which was nightmare tbh )

thats a fair comment
but with the known issue's in the past , and the development work done in this new model they must have worked on the known issues
or am i hoping for to much

OK......So the 'run out' GS's have most of their issues sorted
The new 1250GS will come with a host of 'unknown' issues that will appear over time as the new owners put some miles on them and they'll get mostly sorted as the production run continues
and so it goes on........!
