BMW present the new 1250GS

Oh look!
Radiators to twat off in a fall! (like all other bikes)

With the back of the bike been a mirror image of the old model 1200 all the panniers will have the exhaust cut out on the wrong side so I doubt the old panniers will fit unless the brackets riveted to the panniers can be reversed.

I`m liking `to twat off` :bounce1

Gonna use that in my little engineering world.

Sorry officer, whilst riding my bike the speedo was accidently `twatted off` by your wing mirror as I passed you

That isn't what Mike was saying, he made no reference to depreciation. He was merely pointing out that the run out models represent better value for money in the showrooms and in most cases are the peak of the model develpoment. He's right, the same thing has applied to the car insdustry for decades. If you want a fully sorted product buy a runout model.

+1

I always buy the 'last' of the current model, 3 months ago I bought a 2012 CRV, great offers & discounts (yes please) because the new model is out in some countries and will be released in the UK in the Autumn

Why wait, when you can have a product that has had the glitches revised

Beta tester - no thanks, life is too precious to keep runing back a motor dealer for constant warranty and software upgrades

If you think depreciation of an old model is a killer, when a new one is launched...................think again, look at 1150GSA SE's worth the same money now nearly as when they were first sold

Look at 15 year old Airhead GS's, only going up

Depreciation is only a mug's game, if you buy new and change every 2-3 years (been there, done that:blast)

bikes are not about VFM.

if that's your priority, then IMO you are doing it wrong :eek

Yeah swapping the bike frequently doesnt make a lot of sense. I think the current model will become a classic similar to the last of the air cooled 911s - anyway that's what I like to think :comfort. Will keep this one for at least 5 years probably longer :thumb

OOOO MCN slipping up!!! tut tut not the 1st....so....unlucky! :pullface

They will want it to have 1000 BHP n go 900 MPH anyway :comfort

TD :rob

Maybe, but when you find something that suits and it's giving good service whilst still retaining a modicum of value, then it all adds to the mix

I rode the Rallye this week and it left me cold, didn't stir the soul whatsoever

It was functional, powerful and did what it said on the tin, but equally a TMax scooter would have done................plus I couldn't see any value in the £13k pricetag................it was not worth the sum of the parts

Interesting comments - what does the 1150 do for you that the 1200 doesn't ? I've owned and done big miles on both and prefer the 12 in every way.

So any guesses as to what the price might be on launch?

I am assuming with the same/similar ABS/ESA packs it will be over £15k! :(

I'd also put a small amount of cash on it being heavier and losing a little of the low centre of gravity of the current DOHC model.

Undoubtedly it will be faster and more tractable - but if I can't take all my stuff off a current bike it means buying new and hundreds or thousands of pounds worth of farkles over and above the asking price will make a bike difference to lots of people.

I decided to buy a new DOHC last week rather than wait for this one (in fact if the DOHC isn't considerably better than my MY08 model - I may well sell it on within weeks and keep the MY08)

I can always buy one of the new models in the next year or so, if they really are that good and may the mad rush to upgrade and pay top dollar will have eased too :)

Having owned a 12GSA and ridden a 12GS a few times, I don't honestly know

I find the 12GS lighter and more nimble, but not as planted as the 1150's or 12GSA

The 1200's are really fast and smooth, faster than the 1150's for sure and handle fine

Maybe i'm a luddite (I know I am and that's fine by me) but I like the way they are designed and built, the way they are finished off (one thing that really bugs me on the 12's is the cockpit area, too minimalist), everything in it's place and has a place - I like metal too and it looks like a motorbike

1150GSA's power delivery suits my riding style, the gear ratios etc

I 'feel' at home on them

I *for one, won't be rushing out to buy the GSA.

My 09 GSA is a keeper. I've ridden a few of the DOHC GS's and been disappointed and unimpressed.

Maybe the 1250 will be a huge leap forward, but I doubt *it.*
Mind you, It'll probably have a few extra electronic tweaks though, like selectable ECU maps and improved TC and active suspension options..:augie

I doubt very much that BMW could be so stupid as to put the 'zorst on the other side, and then have to re-tool for new panniers and expect their loyal customers to splash out for more. It would be plain dumb.

But for how long, seeing as nothing is forever...?

Well, I've owned my GSA since new, and I've just had the 24k service done.
It's got all the mods I want done to it. plus it's been totally bullet proof.

My Remus headers and Akra can and Vario boxes etc... Won't fit the new bike,

Still, never say never eh. I might test ride the new bike, and it'll blow me away:thumb

Maybe they'll get round that by supplying free panniers for a season?
