At the minute, I have a Givi E55 top box on my RT.

It does what I need it to do but the silver isn't an exact match to that of the RT and does look a wee bit out of place.

Thinking of splashing out on a genuine 49 Litre BMW Top Box.

Appreciate the blurb says that it takes 2 x full face helmets ok, just wondering if anyone here uses one and puts 2 x full face helmets with bluetooth intercom attached to them into the BMW top box ... do they fit ok?

Cheers :beerjug:

I haven't tried with a bluetooth equipped helmet but it happily takes two helmets without any problems.

Have you thought about getting the lid on the Givi sprayed to match your RT as a new BMW top box is in the region of £470 now.

I haven't but that's a great idea ... would be the perfect solution and save me a few quid.

Any idea best places to do that type of work .... car accident repair garage?

That’s exactly what I would do, I only got the BMW 49ltr topbox because I bought it with the bike at a bargain price

They should be able to do that for you with out any problems. All you need is the BMW paint code for your bike and they should be able to get the paint match with no problems.

I bought a rattle can of wheel paint from Halfords to spray my home brew topbox - the colour is the same as my bike's silver panels etc. On the tin it says "Simoniz 5 Wheel Silver acrylic spray paint"

Cheers again folks. Leaving the top box into a local bike spray painter who has quoted me circa £50 to do the job. Sounds good to me. Thanks again for the suggestions.:beerjug:

I have one and its a good quality bit of kit, but very expensive for what it is.

Its also not as big as you'd expect inside as it is double skinned so you lose a fair bit of capacity between the inner & outer.

top box

keep the givi, the bmw box weighs about 4 times more than the givi and found that solo it tends to weave slightly when over three figures,no problems with my v46 and less than half the money

That's the Give E55 left into a local bike spray painter this evening to spray it the same colour as the panniers. Will post a before/after pic once I have it back.

I've got one, and I can assure you as it's specified as 49 Litres, it was no suprise when I found out it was only 49 Litres:pullface

Sounds like your sorted now but yes the BMW unity does take 2 x full face helmets with coms - I have a Nolan and an Caberg with coms that fit fine with room to spare.

As mentioned is a heavy box but I dont get the "weave" above 100 I find it great for days out can usually get 2 full face helmets and our gloves plus a bit of extra kit (water bottles and air compressor etc) all in togehter if we stop for a walk around.

Good comfy back rest and very wide too so good support.

Tis bloody heavy though but never seems to bother the bike.

Paint match

They should be able to do that for you with out any problems. All you need is the BMW paint code for your bike and they should be able to get the paint match with no problems.

Try Humberside paints in Grimsby, they supplt paint to the local motorrad dealer. Reasonable prices, e.g. around 15 quid for a quarter litre.

Finished article

There was a promise of photos of the finished article.

I'd love to see it as I'm considering going down the same path.

I've got no intention of putting a top box on my RT, got an Ortlieb bag to sling and strap on the rack / rear seat when touring....they just don't look good with a big box on the back :nenau My missus already calls them 'vanity cases', ..... put me right off :D

SWMBO doesn't like the look of the topbox either, but it's more secure than a bag strapped to the rack when parked up on tour whilst exploring on foot.
