Hi I’m new to this forum so I’ll get straight to the point I’ve got display problems ongoing from new and I’ve had the engine stalling whilst increasing throttle from 2nd or 3rd gear not happened in top gear as yet it just cuts out but after switching off starts 1st time. The display stays on and doesn’t show any signs of a fault. I’ve had various things go wrong on the my vehicle screen e.g oil level not working and break/riding time going haywire. Anyone had problems? Hope the engine doesn’t stall when on a smart motorway..........

Yes it’s going in this week they said they wood update the software if nothing showed up on the diagnostics.......not very reassuring.....

I am new to the R1250 GSA changing over from a K1600 GTL a couple of weeks ago. I had untold issues 2 x Engines, 3 x Gearbox's and an entire Frame with the K and learnt one or two things about dealing with BMW along the way.

My best advice is get nasty, stand your ground and do not accept their assurances that all be well. Its a sad stance to take but if you're Mr Nice Guy they will just keep fobbing you off. Hopefully you will have a better experience than I did. Good luck....

Thanks for the advice you’ve given And will not be pushed away if they don’t find the cause of the problem. On its 1st issue with the information on the tft Chester motorrad said ther was not a fix for it....total lies. I wouldn’t trust them blowing my tyres up......

Mine did this a couple of times then displayed error on TFT to take it to the dealer. Turned out to be software update.

Took the bike in to the dealership today, nothing showed up on the diagnostics so, that’s that. They didn’t charge me....but could have done due to the fact they will not be paid by BMW because they couldn’t find a fault. So fingers crossed it doesn’t happen when there’s a articulated lorry behind me. Love the bike though.... remind me again what’s a warranty for?

Took my 2019 R1250GS out today, 6800 miles to date and never missed a beat. Started fine, however, as I was getting on (I'd started the bike by this time), I suddenly got a message that the key was out of range (it wasn't) for a few seconds. Got about 500 yards down the road, just changed into 3rd gear and suddenly lost power (if you pulled the clutch in, the bike would tick over, but you couldn't rev), dropped down a gear to second and she immediately picked up. Thought this a bit unusual, but engine still had to come up to working temperature. About 15 miles down the road, doing 70mph on the M25 in top gear and suddenly I felt a loss of power before she picked up again - however even with cruise engaged at 70, the engine just didn't feel right, almost like slight surges of power as it maintained speed. Got to destination ok, did a test start (after getting the random key out of range message at previous start-up) and fired up just fine.

On my return journey, fired up perfectly, ran absolutely perfectly, no hint of the earlier "problems".

At the moment, I'm inclined to believe it to be one of those "technology glitches" that modern machinery suffers for no apparent reason from time to time. Software was last updated last August, so its on the current-1 version (022_005_041)

Anyone else suffered these odd power losses? What it felt like was that the wireless throttle lost "contact" with the engine momentarily (as it didn't cut out, but if you pulled the clutch in, just sat at tickover)

Yep, that too key out of range, random stalls and then “take me to the dealer message”
I was on 022_005_041
BMW assist diagnostic showed a fuelling issue. Dealer had it and software updated and now it’s good as gold

Thanks @Cyber, sounds like I need the latest software update then. Thanks for the quick reply, appreciated

I ended up changing fob battery with no effect.

Another thing that went belly up in this chain of events was the bike wouldn’t charge via the CAN BUS, I had to go straight to the battery.

I needed to charge it ‘cause the battery went flat too… just in case those things happen too.

The software on my 2019 1250gs is the same 022 005 041 and was told by William Bmw that it’s the current version. Possibly just a glitch but could be dangerous.

Mine is a 2019 GS. I had 22_005_041. Latest software added about a month ago to 022_007_020….

Generally speaking, in my experience, if there is a software issue, the symptoms are fairly predictable, i.e as soon as the situation that triggers the bug occurs, the fault will be there.

Any time a problem pops up randomly, it usually is some sort of a mechanical issue.

Related to the stalling issue, fuel supply is monitored by recording the fuel pressure, so any time the pressure drops (Fuel pump or fuel filter issue) this will be recorded and stored.
I'm not sure how a failed coil will be handled (that is, if diagnostic will record it). But what if the bike has collected moisture in the fuel-tank during the winter? Usually, the fuel filter is expected to pick up water droplets, but there is a limit to how much it may handle.

Back in the carburettor days, water in the fuel was not uncommon in my neck of the woods, and the symptoms where anything from occasional misfire to burst of stalling, where the stall could last for several seconds. (A small bottle of the appropriate elixir usually fixed it.)

I'm not sure of the relevance in this particular case, but it sure is weird that no fault is recorded by the ECU...

my 2c

I would agree but mine ran without missing a beat for months, then over the period of a couple of weeks started with symptoms that lead to BMW assist, dealer and software to resolve it. Didn’t change a jot with connecting the iPhone to the TFT though :blast

Same here. Mine 2019gs was 041, updated about 6 weeks ago to 020.

I’ve now been told by the dealer that there separate software for the fuel injection and software for the tft !!!!!!
