I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2023, I was fortunate in that it had not spread, but I went through the process, PSA tests show it was growing so I had 2 rectal examinations and we moved on to the MRI scan followed by, what was for me the most unpleasant part, the biopsy. I was given 4 choices and a whole load of literature about the pros and cons of each procedure. I opted for the radio-active “seeds” that are inserted by surgery into the prostate. There followed a further test, basically a flow test where you pee into a funnel and the amount and rate of flow is measured. Unfortunately, I failed the test, so I had to reconsider. My choice was Radiotherapy and so I had to have a CT scan and gained 3 little tattoos, co-ordinates for the treatment. I went 5 days a week for 6 weeks and the treatment was successful, I didn’t need chemo or hormone treatment. I had monthly tests which went to 3 monthly tests and now I am on 6 monthly tests. The NHS staff at Singleton Swansea and Neath & Port Talbot hospitals were simply amazing. Don’t give up and accept that this is the end of your motorcycling, stick with it and see it as the next phase of this life that you have been given a second chance, because you can beat it!
