I have decided to sell my bike as I've got the dreaded Prostate cancer.

Just putting feelers out for now, 2019 (69 plate) very good condition 6000 miles, Mot'd Oct 2024, just serviced at BMW. Few of the usual extras.

Will post photos if I get any interest. I'll be looking for £7200.

Thanks Gerard, we are off to the far east next week till April so plenty of time yet, still waiting for my MRI and bone scan results. Don't really want to sell, but if the cancer is operable then there's no way I can ride a bike. As they say, shit happens.

If you haven't had an MRI scan yet what makes you believe you have prostate cancer? (I'm of that age so know some about the process)

I know plenty of people with penises who still ride post-prostate surgery.

And a biopsy for histological proof, MRI and bone scan to show the extent of any spread, hopefully not in your case.
Have professionally known many folk who have good quality of life post treatment, so don't give up mate.
Perhaps postpone the bike sale until you know the outcome, it's value won't change much and you could regret it.
Biking and all that goes with it can be great therapy !

but biopsy is the absolute last thing to be done AFTER mri.
psa raised
restestpsa
rectal examination
MRI
biopsy (if MRI looks to contain shadows/dots)

Horrid either way to be disagnosed but i know several folks still riding who have had various different treatments including prostate being fully removed.

Thanks all for the encouragement to carry on.

I've had full body MRI and biopsy, I was told last week I have cancer in my prostate. Going on Monday for a radiological bone scan.

Have a good news story on me to cheer you up BB

I had my radical robotic prostatectomy in June 2020, postponed 3 times because of covid.

Fingers crossed PSA is still non existent.

If they’ve caught it early enough you’ll be fine to ride your bike. I was off painkillers the next day, and riding in about 5 weeks- the bag was the worst experience for me.

I hope that your bone scans etc are all positive, and make sure that you get in contact with MacMillan Nurses if you have any worries, they are great and can put things in perspective.

GLWTS should you go ahead with the sale

👍👍

I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2023, I was fortunate in that it had not spread, but I went through the process, PSA tests show it was growing so I had 2 rectal examinations and we moved on to the MRI scan followed by, what was for me the most unpleasant part, the biopsy. I was given 4 choices and a whole load of literature about the pros and cons of each procedure. I opted for the radio-active “seeds” that are inserted by surgery into the prostate. There followed a further test, basically a flow test where you pee into a funnel and the amount and rate of flow is measured. Unfortunately, I failed the test, so I had to reconsider. My choice was Radiotherapy and so I had to have a CT scan and gained 3 little tattoos, co-ordinates for the treatment. I went 5 days a week for 6 weeks and the treatment was successful, I didn’t need chemo or hormone treatment. I had monthly tests which went to 3 monthly tests and now I am on 6 monthly tests. The NHS staff at Singleton Swansea and Neath & Port Talbot hospitals were simply amazing. Don’t give up and accept that this is the end of your motorcycling, stick with it and see it as the next phase of this life that you have been given a second chance, because you can beat it!

We need to have a word about anatomy, Andrew! :D

Seriously though, sorry to hear your news BUT haud yer horses! The bike will eat no bread sitting on an optimate and the day will come when a birl over to Ullapool will be just the tonic you need!

Enjoy your holiday. (y) :steptoe😎

I am not qualified in any way to give medical advice, but this is interesting:

"Lead researcher Dr Jie Yang from the University of Cambridge’s Department of Pathology stated, “Our findings offer a new perspective on how aspirin works against metastasis. This research explains aspirin’s long-observed benefits in cancer survival and suggests new avenues for targeted immunotherapies.”

Thanks all, I've put everything on hold for now. I spoke to the bloke I bought the bike off at Mitchells (Inverness) and he said he had spoken to plenty of bikers in same situation and said not to sell.
So will probably keep hold and see what happens, SWMBO has also said not to sell as well.

Good decision and all the best👍

I had a big off back in 2007 sold my bikes thinking that was it - 6 months later I was missing them so much

Then 10 years after that I had a spinal infection and ended up temporarily in a wheel chair, my wife used to say to me when I was al my lowest - just keep imagining that first run on your bike when you get over this .... she was right
I think you are doing the right thing, very best of luck with your recovery
