Hello there, I currently ride a Ktm adventure 1090 which I have fitted an aftermarket screen to.
I have test ridden a bmw r1300 gs, it was a triple black with the ASA and electronic screen, I loved the bike, absolutely amazing engine, transmission, handling and the screen was great too.
The only problem, the demo I rode would retail at £23k and the interest rates on pcps are not attractive to me.
I have found a number of low mileage nearly new used and ex demos online for less than £16k much more in my price range. I can do without a lot of the optional extras but one of the things I really care about is the screen. The electronic screen seems to be a massive upgrade, but there do not seem to be many r1300gs in my price range with the electric screen.
Can any r1300gs owners speak to the upgradability of the standard screen? Puig do a nice touring screen for the gs.
Do you think the electric screen is a must have option, or can the non electric screen bike be upgraded to as good as or better?

Ok am i right in saying that the electric screen has an additional set of wind deflectors, and you cant get these for the manual screen?

If it's the electric adjustment you are after I don't think you'll be able to upgrade it easily. It's built into the software etc.
If it's just a higher screen you would like then any after market 1300gs screen should fit.
Think one of the downsides of the manual screen is they it either up or down ( no in-between). That's how it seemed on one I tried in the showroom but I could be wrong.

Correct, shame they couldn't fit the adjustment system from the 1250GS to fine tune the height.

There are clear wind deflectors screwed to the bodywork, i guess you could add these, you’d need to drill the appropriate holes and screw in the threaded inserts that hold them

On the screen itself there are black plastic deflectors which are attached by the same screws that hold the screen to the mechanism, so easy to add

Thanks, its not the electric adjustment that i liked. It was more that it was very smooth and buffet/noise free at speed, and i thought this was because of the clear wind deflectors either side of the screen. And it looks like you only get these on the electric screen. If the after market options for the manual screen are as good as this i would be very happy.

Hi I bought the slightly bigger WRS screen as it looks similar to standard but is a few inches larger all round.

The electric screen is fantastic and you could live without it however I was surprised how much I use it. Pop it up when on A roads and motorways, pop it down when on twisties. Similarly when in France or hotter climates it’s great to be able to lower it to get some air flow particularly around towns. It comes in a pack with other useful bits as you can’t buy it on its own.

I have the 1300 trophy without electric screen, after some advice from Smartbazza I bought the WRS replica screen and winglets they were easy to fit but I haven’t had the bike out yet to try it.
The quality seems good and I’m sure they will perform just as good as Oem.
I had the standard screen on my previous 1250 gs and rode it all the time in the fully up position so I’m not expecting any problems.

Can you put up a picture or two of your new screen and winglets please?
I’ve recently bought one of the white ex-demo bikes which has the dynamic pack but not much else. I’ve only been out on the bike once for a quick ride up the road, the small screen seemed fine but I think I’ll need something bigger for longer trips.

Please let me know how it rides.

Here are some photos of the original Trophy screen with a little extender on it and the new WRS tinted screen and winglets fitted, I will try get out on it in the next few days to try it out, weather permitting.

Brilliant, thanks for those, I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on your new setup. What was it like with the Trophy screen before you fitted the extender?

Standard screen on myTrophy with electric screen is bigger than the other photo shown on this thread. Think they may be of the low enduro screen option??. I have fitted the extra extender to mine(about £25 off AliExpress) works well and gives good wind protection.

I did a couple of longish runs from Fife up to Glencoe, probably 120 miles or so travelling at up to 75mph ish at times with the original Trophy screen and the little wunderlich extension and found it okay, but anticipating the new set up to much improved.
Will keep you posted, hopefully out tomorrow

Hi, any update on the improvements to the screen? I test rode a r1300gs adventure with the big electric touring screen today, incredible screen, but its a hefty lot of cash!

I’ve been out on the bike a few times with the WRs standard screen and winglets to the screen and the ones fitted to the tank area, all the fittings come with the screens and are easy to fit, there is a fitting video on Conquest racing web site as well.
The screen has made a huge difference to comfort on the bike and I’m sure it’s just as good as the standard powered screen as it seems an exact copy,
Like you I would have preferred the powered screen but it wasn’t a deal breaker for me as I got a very good deal with this bike. ( Trophy te )
I’m 5’8 on a very good day and have tried it on the high and low settings, on a long run I’ll keep it on the high setting and drop it to lower in the warmer weather during short trips.
In my opinion if you get a good deal on a Trophy te without powered screen go for it.
