Folks

I did post this in the wanted section, with zero response , hopefully someone may be able to assist here.

The project R80 ST that I bought from Mikey is fitted with the wrong headlamp unit - it has the larger RS/RT headlamp which mounts into the spider.

This will not fit between the ears of the R45/65/ST mounting bracket.
The correct unit is quoted as 189mm - just over 7".

There are plenty of cheap new 7" headlamps, but it would be good to install the correct unit if I can find one at a sensible price.

If you have an R45/65/65LS headlamp that is gathering dust, or even the rim/lens/reflector, please do let me know.

Also, the H4 connector inside the headlamp bowl is too big to pass through the small grommet on the back of the bowl ?
The headlamp wiring is part of the main loom - I don't see an obvious sub-loom connection.

How did they get the H4 connector into the headlamp bowl ?

How do you get the wiring through the small aperture in the R80 ST headlamp carrier bracket - this may be moot with the correct headlamp bowl ?

Can anyone with an R80 ST help me with detail/pics of the correct bowl, and how the loom rises up through the triple clamp to the binnacle, headlamp and the indicators ?

Thanks

Chopps

Bung me a PM as I have a correct ST headlight and shell in the shed ....

I think that I'm sorted with the correct headlamp.

I do need some assistance please with close-up shots from under the lower clamp detailing the correct bracckets/attachment of the headlamp bracket to the lower clamp, and how the wiring loom is routed.

There are the remains of two bendable wings inside the headlamp bracket, I assume that the lower loom is retained there after rising up under the lower clamp.

It would be good to have a definitive picture of this area, please.

Sorry to let you down Re the correct headlight.
I didn’t realise mine was the rt bowl and headlight.

Purchased for £25, and a NiB rear light unit for £30 plus £10 combined postage - thanks to gelandestrasse for the heads up.

Hopefully I can get the rebuild back on track now.

Chopper, the guy selling the bits you bought - I'm meeting up with him this week (socially distancing of course). He has some more Airhead bits coming up so keep an eye out.

The main issue now is a decent pair of ST handlebars - the bike was fitted with RT tall bars, which are too much on a naked ST.

I was tempted to the ST speedo, but he had bundled it with three busted tacho units which I definitely don't need.

Yes, please keep an eye open for any ST related parts - thanks again.

You might ask Mikeyboy, he's stripped a couple of STs in the past couple of years, might have some bits left over or suggest replacements.
