Hi All

A mate of mine just paid a fortune for the new Rally 3 suit for me! What a mate!
Was out this evening in heavy rain when after only five minutes I felt my balls tingling:censor: I thought... so this is why it was so expensive :kissy2 But unfortunately there is no such feature built in... it was just the rain that had got through. After another minute I could feel it on my arms and sides and upper thighs. In ten minutes I was wet to the skin!

Is this normal or maybe with the suit being new it has to be treated with some sealant type stuff like what you can spray on tents? Anybody got any ideas/suggestions?

And I'm not going to wear plastic undies:nono

Mine does stay dry as long as the liner is fitted. Although can feel cold around the old fella !! :eek

1st did you have the goretex linings in? if so did you actually get wet or just bloody cold where the suit was fairly tight against the body?

Have an Aldi wet suit, quite good, wear it outside my goretex gear in wet weather, keeps me largely dry, prob cost 20euro or so :aidan

Best thing you can do is sell it to me for a tenner (about12.5 euros in your lingo) and I'll destroy the evil thing for you. You'll have no need to worry any longer about getting a tingling around your scrotum, it will be gone. And if that so called mate ever tries to buy your friendship, with evil, useless gifts, just pass them directly on to me and I will dispose of them for you. No problem. Only here to help a fellow tosser out.
You winging , ungrateful git. :blast

The liner isn't actually goretex, it's BMW's C.A.R.E. material FWIW.

Goretex is great stuff but in certain conditions like off roading where you are likely to get hot it will still leave you uncomfortably clammy.

The R3 suit is is an extremely comfortable and protective suit but IMHO doesn't work that well in heavy rain on tarmac in cold (ish) conditions ( though it kept me dry riding on the autoroute from Vichy to Calais). I carried a cheap plastic w/proof to don in heavy rain (now replaced by a KlimaKomfort) and this enables the suit to operate in a much wider range of weather conditions than a conventional goretex suit.

I suspect that what you actually felt was cold rain which penetrated the outer material and soaked the outer part of the liner giving a feeling of being soaked, this is the reason many people don't like having the waterproof membrane on the inside of the suit. IMHO easily solved with a cheapo over suit.

BMW make excellent gear on the whole and if you want a 100% waterproof suit get your mate to buy you a streetguard!! RP3 is designed to be used in environments where heat build up is likely to be more of an issue than cold wet western european rain.

I prefer to have a comfortable, highly breathable suit that I can add a waterproof layer to when it pisses down, for some that's too much of a faff

Blimey, you're right! - when they introduced the Rallye 3 in 2010 the mebrane was downgraded from Goretex to the same as that used in the Tourance suit.

No, I had the linings out. But it was more than the feeling of cold, my clothes were actually wet and I had to change - particurlarly my underware - it looked like I had "an small accident":blast

Maybe I just need to be prepared to don the plastic overall and thats ok but the last jacket I had was a Frank Thomas and you'd survive a lot longer in the wet although it was a much more clammy affair in hot weather. I guess you can't have it everyway?

Get yourself down to Hein Gericke and buy one of their two piece Gortex suits.
................ From that moment forward you'll never be wet again!

Then sell your overpriced, under performing status symbol BMW suit on here, there's plenty that'll jump at the chance!
................. Then take the left over money you now have left over and plan a nice trip on your bike somewhere. Wet or dry:thumb

So, you wore a suit that has a waterproof liner - with the liner out - and it leaked?

Hold the front page...

Take it back and complain.

Oh and if you get wet in the rain whilst driving your convertable with the top down, take that back to the showroom and moan too :thumb2

ps: Should this not be in the 1200 section.

You couldn't make it up

But, in defence of the man, even though it is a bit stupid:blast

I have a HG Tuareg suit with the Goretex Liner... So that leaves me overheating in the summer, as I can't remove the liner seeing as it always rains here...

A bit cold in the winter as the liner is not quite warm enough:rob

Not a brilliant idea making the liner the waterproof bit IMHO
