Bike broke. Recovered last night from West London to local dealer. All fixed now. Warranty job.

Horrified to find that the bike won't be delivered back to me as I live less than 30 miles from the dealer. BMW Policy sir.

Chuffin Funts.

So I have to spend £25 on a taxi and 90 mins of my time or pay £40 to get the bike delivered to me.

Seems fekkin out of order to me and taking the piss out of customers.

You are entitled to a loan veh so tell them as you did not use that what about having bike rtnd to your home...
I did on previous b/down

Thats a good point. Thx. Will try that one. Car hire would have cost around the £40 I paid for it to be re-delivered.

But I still think that the fundamentals of not returning the bike when fixed is just wrong. I don't recall seeing this policy written down anywhere either.

Check first

If you pay quite a lot of money for a warranty you really should be quite sure what you are getting. We are all constantly at risk of being tricked by the small print. INVEST IN A MAGNIFYING GLASS and make the effort.

err...thx for that.

Trouble is, its been a while since I have read the small print and from what I recall, you don't get small print supplied with the warranty terms as provided with the bike as the description is really rather vague and loose. I don't recall reading about any such restriction. But the basic premise of an expensive bike at a premium price breaking down under warranty, being collected, repaired but not delivered back to you seems fundamentally wrong.

£25 for a 30 mile taxi ride isn't bad.....:augie

Ignoring the rights and wrongs of it, I believe the clause is if the vehicle is taken to and repaired at a dealer other than your local dealer, it can be delivered back on request. If it's repaired at your local dealer, they don't offer that service.

How that works for some of our Scottish members, for example, who may live quite a distance from their 'local' dealer, I'm not sure as mileage isn't mentioned, just the word 'local'.

I bought me bike on the 11th of october and still have no print at all, apparently BMW have run out of warranty documentation for used bikes and despite being told it would be with me in a few weeks, 3 months on it has still not arrived.

For a global company this is piss poor, if they cannot even get a few leaflets printed and sent out I have lttle faith in them fixing a technical issue.

The printer or photocopier is broken and out of warrenty :(

If they won't play ball fcuk em ..... ask for your replacement vehicle to be delivered to you at an address and time convenient for you then use the replacement vehicle to drive to the repairing dealer then leave the replacement vehicle with them :thumb2

If BMW Assist have got any sense they will realise that this will cause them so much shit it will be cheaper and less hassle for them to get your bike delivered back to you :augie

They have the power to make this happen they just need the motivation to do it :clap

I suspect that:

a) Delivery of your bike will mean paying a driver more than an hours pay for the return trip to drop off your bike.
b) The dealer will not be able to offset this cost against the manufacturer and will be out of pocket due to the warranty terms.
c) Perhaps their driver is fully booked with deliveries/collections?

Maybe if you call the dealer and ask if they will cover your taxi fare as a goodwill gesture due to not using a loan vehicle during the repair period, they might either cough up the £25 or order you a taxi.

If they say no, you can always name and shame.

Agreed it does seem an odd loophole in the warranty terms that they can't / won't return a repaired vehicle to its owner as a comprehensive service.

You are not going to like this but Brian is spot on. You have to read what your warranty document says regardless of the bike being a premium product etc etc.

Fundamentally wrong or not, most warranties I've dealt with over the years DO NOT supply a replacement vehicle and you have to collect the vehicle. It's fairly standard and I've had arguments with truck customers over this but them's the rules.

I haven't a clue what the BuMW warranty says but I'll bet money that it clearly states their policy somewhere on it.

Hang on just a minute ..... this has got nowt to do with the dealer. The dealer has repaired the bike in presumably a timely fashion? The problem lies with BMW Assist and their reluctance to assist the customer in the return of his bike

All the dealer can do is speak with BMW directly on behalf of the customer and hopefully get BMW to step in and cover the cost of repatriation :augie

Stop whinging and go and get the bloody bike.

;)

Was the bike recovered under BuMW's Insured Warranty Policy? If so, let's see what the policy says:

....but if the problem cannot be resolved at the roadside, we will pay the costs of taking your motorcycle to the nearest authorised BuMW dealer....

Don't see much in there about returning the bike. However, it goes on....

BuMW Insured Emergency Service

.....blah, blah....you will only be covered in this section....if you have paid the additional premium.....blah, blah....including motorcycle hire, motorcycle recovery and redelivery.....

....but it goes on....

....blah, blah.... other (than from) your local authorised dealer.....

So:

(a) Did you pay the additional premium?

If no, do not pass go.

(b) If yes, was the motorcycle taken to your local dealer for the work?

If yes, do not pass go.

PS The bracketed words (than from) were mine to save the trouble of typing it all out. It gives the gist of what it says, I hope.
