Fizzy, GT, LC days, can any one remember chomping at the bit to get a new toy from the dealer,s and him saying, "We car,nt let it out till its been PDI, we have to check everything,s tight and right, You would,nt want your pride and joy to fall to bit,s while your riding it would you"

There,s no excuse for shoddy workmanship (piss poor might be a better way of putting it :mmmm )

As Boxer said a test ride would have shown the problems, this obviously did,nt take place :rolleyes:

I bought a zx12r recently ( dismissed the idea of a new BWM).....and they invited me into the workshop whilst they did the free first service ( just oil and filter cost). Top service..but when you are paying this much for a quality bike..you should GET quality service.

I treat my R100g/s with a lot more respect than some dealers!!!!

P.S. Total bill £36.10 :thumb

Um, didn't mean to upset you that much. Just a robust exchange of views, shall we say? :o However, you started the criticism angle in this thread, if I may say so, by suggesting that the original poster was at fault. That's fine, but you have to expect to get responses to that. :)

I think Pressurised's joke was prompted, for example, by ideas such as booting the wheel as a safety check. I think the original poster's problem would probably not have been revealed by booting the wheel as I guess what happened was the mechanic put the bolts in finger tight and then meant to go and get his torque wrench, but got intercepted by something more important like having a cup of tea. :rolleyes: Booting the wheel would, in my humble and inexpert opinion (biker since 1972 :rob ), have revealed nothing. I see many riders setting off on their bikes and I don't see many doing the "boot it" check. In fact, I've never seen any doing this particular safety routine.

By the way, your move to Vancouver is fantastic for you, you lucky bugger! :D One of the best places in the world to live, by all accounts. I wish you well.

So when you go out on your bike you do a saftey check,This consists of what?Do you use a torque wrench?How long does it take before you get to go out for your spin? :mmmm

On subject, I did not mean to have a go at Syco it was just a general comment that we simply cannot depend on dealers to always get it right, they often don't .

I go out Monday to Friday 250mls/wk. Every day I do a 30second visual to spot anything unusual and oil level. 30secs is nothing. Every week I check the basics, fliud levels, pads, tyres(nails) and suspension bearings. I don't check bolt torques. Then I think about washing it and don't :rolleyes:
Aircraft pilots have to do a safety check on their machines before they fly, just in case :thumb
 
This brand is becoming a laughing stock. You check out any other owners websites and I will challenge anyone to find bikes riddled with so many build faults and dealer errors.

Thanks for the responce guys, I will be taking the matter further with BMW UK and Bluebell as i do feel a little hard done to. I've always in the past looked after my own bikes as i'm a little festidious with my workmanship and don't tend to put timescale on jobs that need doing. I think I will be doing the gs myself from now on and screw the BMW service history. Other than that I love this bike.

Just be careful about invalidating your warranty by servicing it yourself, any excuse they can find to tell you to feck off over a claim they will!

BTW, good to meet ya yesterday up the cafe!

You must have a terrible dealer, cos that's not my experience at all.
 
Any reasonable dealer would not dispute a warranty claim for (say) engine corrosion just because you had changed the oil yourself. But if you had (again for example) changed the brake fluid and then the servos failed, questions might be asked, and you might reasonably be required to show you did the work correctly.

I was thinking more along the lines of some type of mechanical failure rather than the usuual stuff like brake discs and corrosion etc.
 
Servicing it yourself/independently shouldn't affect the warranty as long as you can reasonably demonstrate the work was done and the work didn't cause the claim. :) But it might colour their approach to any goodwill claims outside of the warranty period. (At least that's my reading of the warranty booklet).

well we've had responce from BMW Motorrad and i've advised them to look at the gser website to gauge the genral feeling of us bm owners over the matter of loose nuts. with any luck they may even take notice.
 
Flippin ek ive just bought a 1200gsa from blue bell
had no probs with anythin so far except the sat nav and power
socket doent power down. Im off on a bike tour of euope
on saturday i think im going to check all the bolts on it just to be sure :eek:
