Whilst the main items obviously don't appear on the first service checklist, didn't they test ride their £175.00 worth of work. If they did how come they hadn't a clue/give sh*t. And if they didn't why bother servicing it, you'd check more than that as you wheel it out of the garage. Feel for ya, but in my experience not unexpected at that dealer, just glad you were so tuned in to a new bike to notice. Find a new dealer and keep safe.

Find a new dealer. Are you suggesting that my brother might be taking drugs!!!!!!!! I thought his riding was erratic due to him being full of metal bars and screws. Now turns out he's using drugs and not offering them around.

Maybe thats the key to true service happiness, get stoned before you get the bill, it's bound to be less painful. Thankfully my old 1150gs has too many miles on it to worry about dealer servicing. Maybe Mad Dog is right. Ride it, and get so many miles on it you may as well service it yourself, end of problem!!!!

Not worth worrying about.....as long as the parts used are good quality, the oils etc are up to spec and the work has been carried out ina competant manner, it won't cause a problem.

Spreading scare stories based on 'what i was told' ........

Dealers aren't in the business of finding "any excuse they can find to tell you to feck off over a claim they will!"...they'd pretty soon be out of business.

Maybe worth thinking before typing ???

Self-service---

Last new bike was an XJR---she came out of the dealers after the first service with the chain so tight the suspension couldn't work---was down the road a few miles before I sussed out what was wrong---didn't bother going back to complain---what's the point---serviced her myself after that---it's their loss. Maybe I was lucky but not so much as a blown bulb in six years and 38000 miles of ownership.

There's no way that BMW can expand it's service side in time to cope with the amount of 1150/1200 s sold and I wouldn't be surprised if much of the warranty claims I hear about could have been avoided if they had sufficient skilled personnel.

BB are mainly car dealers---sounds like they had a non-biking car mechanic in the bike workshop that day.

I carry out a check every time I get on my bike to go to work. I check I've got my fags. I check that my iPod is charged up. I check I have my house keys to get back in. I did check tyre pressures once, but that was somewhere in the Alps when the steering felt a bit strange. Unsurpsingly it was about 20. Actually, I do check the oil regularly - the one thing I am pretty good about.

More fool me, maybe, but to be honest I can't be arsed. I pay stupid money twice a year to CWs and they do a good job on my behalf. Now if the feckin wheels drop off my bike tomorrow you can all take the pith.

Why not? I understand that this poor dealer stuff needs to be addressed but my point is, when it comes to safety in all aspects of life you cannot rely on others.

What checks do you do before you get on a commercial plane? Or on a train? DO you walk the line yourself checking welds?

Wat about restaurants, do you read the food inspector's report yourself, or just look around the kitchen?

Mine made it 50 miles before I had one.

But it must have been a vad dream, according to many views on here.

As we all know.

BMWs do not break
If they do break it is never serious
If it is serious, you are not a real biker if you do not have the tools to fix it yourself
And, if you have to fix it yourself, you have no right to think that that was a bad thing.
