Hi
I am the proud new owner of a 2005 1200GS
Can anyone suggest where I could have any servicing / repairs done in the months ahead please?
I live in Plymouth but would be prepared to travel
I have had a bad experience with Ocean in Plymouth and do not wish to use them
If there is not another BMW specialist , can anyone suggest any general motorcycle repair business that they have used and are happy to recommend
Thanks for your help
Jamie Fry

If you don't mind the distance then try CW Motorcycles in Dorchester. Approx. 100mls from Plymouth.

I won't use anybody else. CW are trustworthy and have always played ball.

Any independants?

I don't like CW, they tried to rip me off with servicing on a previous bike.

Ocean Plymouth

I found them to be OK regarding warranty work although anything else is like getting blood from a stone, I guess because they know that they are the only BMW bike franchise in west Devon and all of Cornwall their attitude is like it or lump it. They do little to make you want to come back, its more a case of having to come back :hide

I've had no problems with Ocean, on my second bike from them, and would recommend them to anyone.

Hey Jamie,
try Bvm up here at Stroud if you dont mind the 150 mile bimble!!you will be made welcome and get a free loan bike for the day, great for a tour of the cotswolds, also bvm are in the garmin sat nav map source as well, right to their doors cant be bad, also the coffee is ok.cheers Pete just a happy customer of theirs..

Gotta say that Ocean are excellent, have found them to well above average, friendly and very helpfull. Would thoroughly recommend them

I wouldn't piss on Ocean if they were on fire.

For reasons I'm not going to go into here, they'll never get my money again. I'd rather burn my bike than have them touch it again.

I've never had a problem with Ocean, they have just saved my skin by raising a claim to BMW for my defective ABS Control Unit on my 03 1150GS with 63K on it.
I don't know what Mark put in the paper work but it saved me about £1500 with parts & labour etc...

That said there is an independent off Woolsey Road (Near the Co-op) in Plymouth that works on BMW's, 650's, 850's, 1100/1150's don't know about 1200's. I have always heard good reports about him...

Some while ago I posted a good contact in the SW Section, near Wrangaton.

:nenau

(Dave, I think you are referring to Steve leach).

Be interesting to find out if they would return the favour, seeing as there is 2 sides to every story:rolleyes:...but I guess we'll never know.
Paying for an extended warranty and not getting it done by the dealer despite them taking your money is a bit one sided which ever POV you take.

Shame I can't edit my post to add that I think Mark is a decent bloke, despite my opinion of the dealership.

I'm told that they read these forums, and they'll be able to guess who I am I'm sure, so if they want to present their side of 'the story'* tell you all I'm a gobshite then they're welcome to.:)

*More a series of short stories really.

If it's Steve Leech Motorcycles I wouldn't bother! Nice guy but seems very disorganised and having spend £800 in 2008 with him I was far from impressed! Mind you it wasn't my GS he worked on!

Well I must speak as I find.

I have dealt with back street bike mechanics to date and have never been happy - Been ripped off and one knackered my RD gearbox by not filling it with enough gearbox oil after a clutch change - they did not want to know! Their called Sidekick Exhausts - bastards!!!!

On the other hand Oceon BMW have been very good to me. I thought they were a bit too tight when I bought my bike in regard to discounts but I got my bike and a good deal in the end. Their after sales service is very good in my experience. I would recommend them to anyone - they have always treated me well - and I'm a fussy git too :aidan
