BMW System 6 Helmet?

Hi Folks, one for surrey yeoman here. Did you get the evoline helmet, and what do you think of it?.
I need a new helmet as i dropped my 2 month old Multitec on the floor in france and need to replace it. Looking at the general view of the system 6, i wont be buying one of those.

yeah I looked at a 6. I thought it looked Ugly, quality looked lacking.

So bought a Brand new System 5 and had the bluetooth fitted.

Well happy with it. Had a few system lids and the 5 is the one that gets my vote so far.

I have a System 6 which has done around 8k miles.

I like it a lot.

I find that rain gets in when the weather is torrential but only then. I've found that with every helmet I can remember.
I find the latch mechanism reliable and easy to use.
When the visor (outer or inner) gets dirty I find cleaning it works well
I do find it quiet although I suspect all the "uber-quiet" claims were made with all vents closed and the inner visor lowered.
My autocom headset doesn't fit brilliantly however a bit of sticky tape sorted that

I'd buy another. I'd also look at alternatives, but it'd be high on my list.

Series 6 woes

I'm on my fourth Series 6 in three years.

#1 replaced under warranty because the tinted visor was scratched by the edge of the helmet.

#2 replaced ditto because the clear visor admitted water down the inside at the centre in the lightest rain.

#3 replaced ditto but reluctantly because two years to the day after purchase the clear visor would not reset when the chin bar was fully raised, i.e. raising the chin bar simply forced a fully open visor further back.

#4 is showing symptom #3 now and the force required to bring the chin bar down is increasing. It also leaks.

When #3 was replaced, BMW said that that would only extend the warranty if I contributed 50% of the purchase price. I declined this and intended to buy a C3 and sell the S6 but found the C3 too uncomfortable and had to stick with the S6.

I do like the Pinlock insert which has never steamed up on me - and I'm a sweaty b********.

I find that the vision slit (?) i.e. area open to the sun is too high and that the lack of shade for the top of my eyes is very tiring on day-long rides. The solution is a very no-tech strip of black insulting tape across the top of the clear visor.

Would I buy another? Very difficult to say. I do like the flip front design. Friend has the Shark Evoline and I would buy one of those (assuming it fitted me) were it not for the fact that it cannot take a Pinlock insert.

Ive had a neotec fully used for about 2 years. Its noisier and feels bulkier than the system 6 evo. I used to have to ride my gs with the screen up with the neotec to reduce wind noise.
With the system 6 I have the screen down And its quieter !
Used every day and its without doubt the best helmet ive ever had.

It's still working as good as new? The only other S6 I have been able to speak to has the same leaking/jamming visor problems as me.

I had a S6
Very quiet but it was too bulky and prevented effective life saver checks but I may just have a short neck and the sun visor wasn't as optically correct as I would have liked
Using a Shoei GT air now and that's a much better lid for me

Have read all the above with great interest as my System 6 is well worn, leaks like a sieve and is bloody noisy and I felt it was high time that I got a new helmet. I also read the various links on page one too.

So, armed with all this data and not wanting to shell out mega bucks for another System 6, which I have never thought was worth the money, I opted for the Shark Evoline Series 3. And I think it is absolutely brilliant. It fits my head perfectly and is soooooo much quieter than the System 6. The field of vision is much wider too. Not been in any rain yet so don't know how well it'll hold up to the weather but it's got a 5 year warranty and whatever happens, it can't be any worse than my dear old system 6 which is now my back up.

Stiff chin-bar action - resolved

I mentioned the increasingly stiff chin-bar action while at Coopers on Saturday. Judicious appliction of Wurth's version of WD-40 has, for the time being, restored the light opening and closing action.

Wonderful that a crash helmet is available that is as dependent on lubrication level checks as the bikes made by the same manufacturer.

Yes, it is correct.

Shark claim that the visor has an anti mist coating, hmmmm, time will tell on that one. They say that to clean the interior of the visor you should only use warm soapy water, hmmmmm, time will also tell on that one too. I'm not too bothered, in the winter (if I do go out on the bike) I normally have my nose and mouth covered anyway and many years ago I used to use Bob Heath's anti-misting spray. so I'm not bothered.

It really does feel like a good, and quality, helmet.
