Hmm, just an update on this thread. I had failed to notice the thread running on and JS's comments, just as well really.

You'll have to try harder than that JS

Jefferies refitted the zip into the correct position at my 6k service.

I didn't ask for it to be done.They didn't mention it and I didn't even notice until I was riding home.

The panel looks new with no sign of marking from the old zip. I even wonder if the panel has been replaced because I'm sure that the writing on the top was worn and now it's as clear as new.

The bag fits fine if you use the strap to pull the bag back against the elastic.

So it's a big thankyou to Jefferies then.

Off there tomorrow to get a new clutch slave cylinder under warranty and a mod to the front discs.

Peter, I just had mine done at Pidcocks. Symptons were a 'pulsing' feeling when applying the brakes and minor squealing from the front brakes.

I told Pidcocks that I thought the discs were warped but they reckoned fitting the modified mounting bolts (they now include rubber bushes Big Lee) would cure both problems.

It did cure the squealing but not the 'pulsing'.
As a result I now have a new set of discs and pads and all is perfect - gotta admit that I'm a bit aprehensive as to how long the new discs may last? Maybe the modded mounting bolts allow a bit more movement and therefore they discs will be less prone to warping, who knows?

I alos have the TT bag, and am very pleased with it.
It has some advantages towards the BM-one, especcialy the full A4size mapholder is great, at least no more swearing whilst trying to insert a Michelin map in it
Second handy thingy is the elastic on the right side, I use it to put my gloves, whenever it's only for a few minutes or so.
And last but not least, I think (personal opinion) that it looks great, even better than the one from BMW, and it's a lot cheaper (at least in Belgium), so I had not much of a choise, now did I

I think they call it a quality enhancement mod

PS Anything to stop it sounding like a HGV when coming to a stop...

I think that the washers are plastic and not rubber. Anyways I didn't have a problem with 'pulsing' just a gentle howl (earplugs in) when coming to a stop.

I suspect the washers just stop the disc resonating.

Anyway all done now and all quiet.

Bike going great, turned 8k on the way home.

Also got 253.4 miles to a tankful of gas, with 2 miles on the 'to go' countdown.

Getting back to the tankbag fixing, I too decided in a "measuring up" session that there was no way the bag would stretch to the zip mounting point in the instructions. But it is very difficult to stretch the elastic unless the bag is clipped to the bike at the front.

However, I also allowed some extra room to fit some foamy stuff between the bag and the bike to help protect the paintwork.

So although my zip is mounted nearly as high as the red bike shown, the bag is entirely stable in use. I console myself with the thought that additional tension on the zip mounting from stretched elastic will cause the adhesive to give way sooner...

Just fit the bag as per the instructions, it will fit (pull the bag up and back firmly using the strap before the zipping) if it fails later you will not have a problem with replacement under warranty.

Just about to take delivery of new 1200GS. I have the BMW tankbag on my present 1200GS . Does anyone have any experience of removing and re-attaching the tank mounted zipper ?

Just peel the zip part off the velcro, leave the stuck on velcro on your old bike & get a new bit for your new one.

I just had the front washer mod carried out as I felt the pulsing through the front brakes...also the rear disc was changed due to excessive wear, I haven't been out on the bike since it was done but I felt that the juddering / pulsing was more to do with the discs...will see how it goes...now on 9,000 miles...

a little tip... make sure you muffler has the silver cover on the end of the pipe. THis little change is actually a mid year mod ! I got screwed over on mine.

I would say that if you couldn't see the instruments with the BWM tankbag fitted then there's no way you could reach the ground anyway i.e. very short.
