I know that the Vario topbox can be fitted to the GS1200 in place of the pillion seat but is the topbox holder mounting kit the same one that holds the topbox to the rear rack or is it a different holder ???

Same baseplate, but you need a £20 kit to mount it to the pillion position. Unless you never carry a pillion, or don't mind doing a bit of spannering if you do, it's probably better off hanging on the rear rack. :thumb

be advised they have a habit of flying off leaving you at your destination without top box!

Less likely to fly off back seat than rack in my experience. (Although I gave up and got my money back on top boxes & plates)

(Yes, sorry, being repetitive, apologies.....)

Cheers Wizard, that was the answer I was looking for :thumb

Ho hum more expense :(

Do it bud, its the most bestest bit!

Nice 'n fat...... I got the kit for mine and as my girly hasnt been bothered to go on the back yet the top box sits where her seat would be most of teh time....! Its dead versatile and provides a nice back rest...

It is a bit of a pain getting your leg over it when you have it opened up to its biggest though!

:)

To make the switch you have to unbolt the large black triangular plate from the rack, then fit the mentioned kit to it. If your going to go back and forth between the two configurations with any frequency, you may want to buy a second black plate. That's what I did.
