BMW Warranty

Starting to get fed up with the extended warranty. Switchgear failure - both sides, to some extent poor quality and resulting corrosion, exhaust flap. Nothing seems to be covered. And if you have the bike serviced at a different dealer (maybe dealer A was crap, maybe you re located and started seeing new dealer/ or one closer to work... /maybe went to an independent/ maybe dealer you used to go to moved further away so you changed back to your normal dealer....) they are not going to help you. Guess its not that you spend money on a brand, its that have to spend it at the same dealer even if you get crappy service...to get goodwill---even though as customer service explained - they GIVE the dealer money to hand out for good will and if dealer A does not want to do a good will...try another dealer, Sir....
Anyone else tired of spending cash now on a bike thats 3 years old...?

Just had my FD changed due to a crack in the casting, all covered by the Extended Warranty. The casting was not covered per se but a covered item caused the crack. Certainly has been a sound investment but I am doing about 23k miles a year on it.

I will need to find a reliable breakdown recovery however and I will miss the peace of mind that I got with BMW assist when touring in Europe.

You can buy BMW Assist separately

However CN insurance has a great recovery service included

I have had a look at CN and it is a possibility once I get my renewal quote this year. I am currently with BMW and the CN quote is about £130 more than I paid last year. The level of breakdown cover offered is about £100 with the AA so anything above a £30 rise from BMW this year and CN is looking good. I will have to speak to CN rather than go with the online quote and hope to squeeze a bit more from them. When admitting previous claims in the quote there is no mention of hitting a suicidal deer in their drop down menu so I went with "hit an object". They might be a bit more lenient once they know the object I hit was running at me.

I've just had my 18k service carried out and I mentioned my fuel gauge was bit erratic and showing incorrect mileages etc. I have a 58 adv.

I have a BMW used approved warranty and the fuel cell and sender was all replaced FOC no quibble while it was in for its service.

I've been very happy with the dealer and how it's sorted things under warranty :)

Carole Nash managed to get the quote down to £40 more than my renewal quote for fully comp. from BMW so in effect the recovery is costing me £40 for full UK and European recovery with home start, accident and puncture recovery. Seems like a reasonable deal so I will give them a try. I will give the BMW extended warranty with the roadside assist a miss principally because I will hit the magic 30,000 miles during the year when they stop covering the suspension but don't seem to reduce the premium.

Having broken down with a burned out clutch 2 weeks after my Warranty was renewed and considering the issues I'm having i'd say no.

Having ridden 50 miles the clutch started to slip. i duly called BMW who organized a tech to come out.
The "BMW" tech that turned up was a joiner to trade with no knowledge of bikes. He turned up with a car trailer. So the bike had to be man handled on to the trailer and strapped on as best possible.
The BMW dealer said the issue was caused by the hand guard not allowing the clutch to release.....hmmm it's checked every time it's cleaned and it's never been dropped. not to mention if ridden 50miles with no issue...dealer would not accept that the man handling and strapping was the reason for the handguards position. needless to say £800 for a new clutch bearing in mind ive just paid £312 for the warranty and £400 to keep it valid!!!!!!!!!!

They also picked up that the rear wheel bearing is faulty and actually covered under the warranty......hooray....... eh no. They dont have the tool to change out the bearing! and they would overcome this by replacing the final drive which.............is not covered in the warranty.

Shambles from start to finish.

As someone has mentioned above a bolt on recovery is available from AA and the repair could have been covered by the cost of the useless warranty.

Love the bike, disillusioned by the level of service.

Complain, or go to another dealership.

Bahnstormer found my rear wheel bearing had excessive play whilst still covered under a used bike warranty, they also had no tooling. They replaced the FD as a complete assembly instead, all it took was a call to BMW for authorisation.
