Well at the bike show on Saturday. Was looking for a backprotector, been meaning to get one for a while, and finally bought one made by these folks:
http://www.tprobodyarmour.co.uk/

I wore the back protector on the way back from the show and on a ride today.. comfy and secure, very reassuring. Its not solid like some of the other ones, but appears to be a balistic type rubber, that flexes a little.

Rocks,Have got the back protector and the action pro + shorts worn every time on the bike for the last year,no problems :thumb

Which back protector was it? Sport or leisure? Looks good kit with a kidney belt built in. Oh and the most important bit...how much?

cheers

Spot version.. level B protection..

I got the sport one.. apparently Level B.. the highest level of protection.

It is fairly thick, but doesnt feel too bulky when on. It cover the spine full and actually gives you a slight bit of support, certainly feels re-assuring to have it on. And comfy and helps keep the gut in :thumb lol..

Price £79.99 at show. £89 on their website.. but with armoured shirt was £189.. (shirt was £130 on own)

Will be looking at the knee/thigh/high protection next. The rubber construction means it shouldnt compress like the Knox armour does.. as far as my non expert opinion goes.

If you are thinking that you will need the armour then go for the Dianese Safety Jacket. We used these off road for many years and they are the tops for protection and comfort. Are you going off road or on? I have sold the jacket but have the elbow and knee protectors still so you can have a look at them next time you call. Chain Reaction Cycles in Ireland are the keenest on price for the stuff.

Rigidity

I might be wrong, but i believe the Dianese armour is rigid.. ???

I actually went away from rigid armour, as recent testing by cambridge university, found that ridigidised armour transfered too much force, and didnt dissipate/spread the energy of impacts as efficiently as a non rigid (semi deformable) armour types. Infact the testing apparently showed the t-pro stuff to be the most efficient, ok it was being shown on the stand, and I am sure that Dianese have a similar report somewhere. But from my simple understanding of physics and substance behavior regarding sudden impact ( I do a lot oF perrcussive drilling for a jab).. a certain amount of deformation capability in a material makes a hell of a lot of difference to the amount of force/energy stransmitted through it.

On the point of fairness, this is just my opinion.. and I dont hold shares in T-pro, or have ever owned any Dianese armour.

I think the reall message to remember is.. I am fairly sure that you are better having something than nothing. Especially for off road. Personally the tpro stuff suits me for the mo. Just hope I never have to put it too the ultimate test..

I tried to buy from them on Thursday at the NEC, I was totally ignored, they were happier to talk about being Yorkshire tight arses than actually making any money. I put the Lumbar armour/support back on the racking, put my money back in my pocket and have ordered from elsewhere...........

Funny..

Thats strange.. the guys on the stand werent allowed to sell stock.
But they directed me to infinity motorcycle stand where they were stocking their items.. even walked over and explained the reduced deal on the back and shirt when bought togather.. :thumb
