Bolt Extraction!

If you can get hanger off and remove the head from the bolt, try one of these but you will need a good 8-10mm of stud sticking out and heat. Might even grip the head or whats left of it. Only problem maybe as bolt is now effectively hollow, as it grips it will crush it and twist off, but you never know.

Couldn't post a link so here is Ebay item number

Lots of heat. A soldering iron will not get it hot enough. Hot air gun, cheap enough to buy one. Good idea to remove the seats first and apply heat for a good 5 minutes. It’s a good idea to use something non-flammable to shield any bits you don’t want damaging by the heat gun.

Those bolts can be stupid tight and locktighted, bit late now but always apply heat to any bmw major bolt fixing before attempting removal, only thing i can think of is drill the head off and heat the remaining stud up and use a decent stud remover

This,
Oh,and buy some decent tools:D

If,
I was faced with this today.
I’d heat the other fixing and remove it with some decent tooling.
I’d try knocking a torx bit into the damaged bolt hole, with some heat from a £15 heat gun,try to move the stuck fastener,at the same time as undoing, wiggle the foot rest hanger in the same direction as you turn the bolt.
If this fails,
Drill the head off the bolt.remove the footrest and ride the bike to an engineer, who can weld an oversize nut to the bolt and make it look easy.:thumby:

Finally, the f**ker is out, thanks to a man with more know-how than me & the rack is on & ready for the up-coming Scotland tour.

Did you see how it was done, or did they take it around back of shed, away from the sensitive customer eyes.

Your life lesson is hopefully not then ours :thumb2

Done whilst I watched, by a mechanic who's a friend of a friend.

Amazing what can be done with a bit of know-how & a proper tool kit!

As others suggested, he drilled deeper into it, with a decent quality bit, then hammered a torx headed driver into it & coaxed it out.
Took him less than half hour!

I'd have still been at it & would have probably drilled into the frame a few times by now.

So I’ve got a new GS and I can’t get my pillion peg bolts out for love nor money.
No way I can fit my Givi pannier rails unless I can get them out.
I don’t have an impact driver or a heat gun.
I’ve stopped trying before I mash the heads.
It’s going into the dealer on Friday because the bars aren’t straight so I’m hoping the dealer can get the bolts out.
Any other ideas before I do my usual ‘I’m no engineer - please help me’ speech!

Start with post 1 and work your way down the posts

Go out and buy a heat gun then. It’ll pay for itself in other uses.

Then make sure you have a decent set of torx sockets, not some Chinese rubbish.

With the above you really shouldn’t have to go as far as an impact driver.
