I spent a fascinating hour wandering the grounds and ruin of the old Friary. A local man told me it has a strong connection with the sea and any bodies found on the beach were always buried up here. The Friary is on the road to Tor head out of Ballycastle. As you pass the golf course the small car park can be seen at the side of the road to the right.









Could this really be 1630? Friary founded 1500...

Skull and crossbones, a pirate or a surgeon perhaps? I don't know enough about these symbols



 
It's also a favourite place for The Black Nun to go a haunting. I remember going there on a night time ghost hunt as a teenager. :eek:

Is it possibly the place where a number of German sailors or sub-mariners were buried during WW2? Or maybe I imagined that bit!
