There ain't no feckin' waterfalls between Waterford and Wexford - at least, not since the last ice age..........Mahon Falls, well worth the spin
The wreck is the Portlairge (as gaeilge; The Waterford) - not a trawler but a dredger that is beached along the shore of Bannow Bay, Wexford near to Tintern Abbey -
(shamelessly blagged from another site
"For the information those of you who seem to have no feeling for Waterford's Heritage, the dredger SS Portlairge was built in Glasgow in 1906 and worked on the Suir for 74 years up to the time it was retired (and sold for a pittance) in 1980. Its proposed replacement never materialised as it was caught up in the intricacies of a liquidation when its builder - the Ross shipyard - went bust. The Portlairge was only one of 3 working models of its generation and type in 1980. In truth, the decision to dispense with it could be viewed as a rather shortsighted and unfortunate decision of the then Harbour Board. Imagine the attraction it would now be on the river. To those of us Waterford folk who had connections with the ship - and there are quite a few of us - the sight of it in its present state, is heartbreaking; better it had been scuttled than end up as a rusting hulk. Unfortunately, it is probably beyond saving at this stage and that is to al of Waterford's shame")
Diathi, is the boreen going to the Abbey - well worth the visit....?
