Both Wheel removal

Why not just leave it on the centre stand, that takes care of the back. I use a paddock stand for the front but a trolley jack under the sump guard works.

+1 with the above. I did exactly the same and with no issues.

Those are spindle removal tools, not what i posted the link to which is a strut to support the front end to facilitate wheel removal.

The Touratech website is down so I had to guess. ;)

A piece of timber 2 x 1 x 36 inches long under the beak does the same job as the Touratech strut. A jack under the sump is more secure.

The link works for me.

Unless i cut it into pieces (which is defeating the object) a 36" long piece of wood won't fit in my toolbox,
neither will a jack and finding something to do the job on the Dalton highway or such is problematic so,
the Touratech thingy although not perfect does do the job, it fits nicely in my toolkit and, as i got it used didn't cost much :thumb

Just a guess ... but I suspect these are not the same thing!

I'm sure you are right, but a stick of wood is cheap and does the job.

Anyone on the Dalton will have the back end weighed down with luggage so the issue will be hauling the bike onto its centre stand. Keeping the front wheel up wont be a problem.

How many of GS riders use the Dalton Highway every day?

I guessed you would come back with that one :D

Last year all i had on the back of my bike on the Dalton was a Lomo bag with a few items in it for the overnights in Wiseman as we left
our panniers in a room in the University campus so that we were light loaded so, no the back was not weighted down.

The Dalton was an example i could have chosen anywhere really. If you need to remove the front wheel you already have
a problem so you don't need to add to it by struggling to find something to hold the front up. My little gismo solves the problem
for me and it doesn't take up much space in the kit.

Only in a GS forum could taking both wheels off a bike in the garage/shed run into several pages and a disaster on the Dalton!

If only people would read the original thread.....it does make hilarious reading though.

Best part is,

Its done and dusted- the tyres never went on and the wheels are back on.

when i do get the wheels off next week, i now know i can do it with a trolly jack and

an axle stand.

Prehaps i should close the thread? naaaaaah :beerjug:
