Went for a test ride on a 15 plate S1000XR Sport SE today and I was very impressed; so much so that I have bought it :thumb2

Here it is next to my GSA.

You wont regret it ( I hope ) I love mine

When i went to test ride the XR from my GSA LC i was doing so just to see what all the fuss was about and i swore it was just a test ride and no way was i going to buy one and i convinced myself that i would hate the thing

I was 5 miles down the road when i stopped for a fag and called the dealer to get me one

Well done :clap
Instead of the GSA or as well as ?

I changed from a GSA a year ago. Huge difference but I'm enjoying my riding again :bounce1

I am hoping to keep the GSA but it will all depend how the XR shapes up for touring etc.

It is IMO a great touring bike. Comfy for the long run and super fast and agile for the hoon around when you arrive

I did about 3000 miles in 8 days in the picos and up through france last year with no bother at all.

I keep on saying that to compare the 2 bikes is like this

The GS will get you to your destination slightly better than the XR and will give plenty of fun once you get there whereas the XR will get you there adequately but will reward you more once there

Exactly my outlook................... :D

I can afford the slight compromise on the slog down the autoroutes - for more fun when I get there. Was impressed with the (brief) trial of low-rev pulling power when I took mine out for the first time 10 days ago. Now done the grand total of 40miles on mine.

Wait till you have it run in and loony mode engaged

Oh and unless you have the panniers get that scaffolding off

I put the bike into full hooligan mode (for a short time) today on the road between Blairgowrie and Coupar Angus - wow!

I dont normall bother for the following reasons

It is slower over a twisty point A to point be blast in Dyna pro as every time you nail it coming out of a corner it either starts to kick the rear out or wheelie like a stabbed racehorse resulting in backing off the gas to get it back under control and slowing down.

I leave mine in Dynamic unless i just want to be a fucking hooligan on one wheel at stupid speeds

The performance between Dyna pro and dyna is the same just less traction and wheelie control

And i know that road its a gud un

I was really, really impressed. Never ridden one before and hadn't been on a 4 cylinder bike for almost 15 years.

It felt familiar with a similar riding position to the GS but f#ck me it shifts! That slipper clutch is a hoot to use and certainly avoids having to use an otherwise heavy clutch.

The roads were greasy and wet in some places, so it was a cautious first hour but the second hour was a tad more progressive as I became more comfortable with what was under me.

What a machine; I get her dropped off next week after they have fitted a top box to compliment the panniers and a Sat Nav.

I can see the GSA going so. Did 5 days in Scotland, covered about 1500, and had a blast. Didn't miss the GSA, or it's weight, at all :thumb

Prepare for the worst suspension on an expensive bike, enjoy.

I've gone for the Sport with manual suspension and am fitting Wilber's straight afterwards so won't have any issues in that department.

Must be great to have the money you guys have
.

Well I'm sure you're blessed in so many other ways

Yep 15 years since my last in-line 4, and that was an R1 track bike. I test rode a GSA and XR back to back over a day and was expecting to like the GSA more. In the end though I just enjoyed riding the XR so much more so went for that instead! Looking forward to getting out and about on it :thumb2

My Ocean Blue SE Sport is being delivered this Friday. Its on a 17 plate but I will fit a few parts and just admire it before the madness begins on the 1st:thumb

I have been away from the fours for a while so am quite looking forward to the fast revving four:beerjug::beerjug:
